DoG's ODI Batting and Bowling Performances

Days of Grace

International Captain
SRs in the same game tends to be skewed by extremely bad or extremely good performances/ The chance of era adjusted stats is skewed far less even by extreme outliers. if outliers affect the baseline then it creates a issue.
Would I then need to adjust the runs scored by era? How would I separate the eras? Would I then separate the eras by host country? There are a number of rabbits holes that I could potentially go down but I have learnt that it is often better to keep things as simple as possible for both my own sanity and for the reader's understanding. However, your post about the ratings of 1st innings batting performances being skewed by the poor batting of the opposition chasing did give me the idea of penalizing 1st innings performances according to the margin of victory, so thanks for that!

Why is the opposition rating for the 1996 Australian World Cup attack 582 vs NZ in the qf against Chris Harris, but suddenly 697 for Aravinda DS in the final?

I've checked and the attacks were the same (didn't note the overs each bowled)

I wrote in the original post that this is a work in progress. What Tendulkar knocks would you like me to check?
I reckon his 175 was a better innings than the 200 for example - think that would be a regularly held view. Just interesting/curious what makes the list and what doesn’t - sometimes the “problem” with statistics/numbers I suppose!
The 90-odd vs Pakistan in the World Cup too, but probably doesn’t make it on aggregate of runs alone.

Where would these rate...

Fakhar Zaman 193 vs SAF
Gambhir 98 in WC final
David Miller 139 vs Aus at Hobart
V Sehwag 112 vs NZ at Auckland

Whatever it takes!!!

I have it as his best ODI innings ever. Better than desert storm knocks, which I feel are a tad overrated now and even his WC knocks.

I am sure 2-3 knocks of Zaheer Abbas can be candidates. He played many whirlwind knocks for someone with such a short career.

Good question!

Let's look at the bowlers for each match and their ratings. The final rating for each bowler is a combination of their rating at the completion of the match and their career peak rating with a ratio of 2:1.

I only count the five members of the attack who bowled the most overs plus any other member who bowled 10% or more of their team's overs. The points are then weighted by how many balls each member bowled.

Michael Bevan bowled his full quota of overs which meant that overall the team's rating went down. Mark Waugh also bowled 8 overs.

In this match the seamers bowled much more overs. In particular, Reiffel's rating replaces that of Bevan's. Thus it could be argued that De Silva faced more a higher quality of bowling than Harris did. The system is not perfect but it is as good as I can come up with at this stage.

Also Chris Harris (and Lee Germon) dominated the top bowlers which forced Mark Taylor to use his part-timers. Anyway, sorry to quibble as it is a really interesting list.

Why does Warne contribute more points in the finale despite bowling the same number of balls whilst being rated lower?
Because Australia didn’t get to bowl their full 50 overs in the final so Warne’s contribution in terms of percentage of balls bowled was greater.
