DoG's ODI Batting and Bowling Performances

Days of Grace

International Captain
Inspired by this thread http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/threads/the-greatest-odi-innings-of-all-time.89487/, I decided to begin work on the greatest ODI batting and bowling performances using my own system, which is very similar to the one I use for rating test performances.

The criteria for ODI batting performances:
Runs
Strike-rate
Conditions
Point of entry (the team's situation when the batsman walked out to bat)
Fall of wickets while at the crease
Largest partnership involved in
Runs with the lower order (6th wicket and below)
Match result
Importance of the match
Opposition (measured by ICC bowler ratings at the completion of the match)
Chasing a target (points awarded for any target above 250)
Margin of win (points deducted for first innings performances)

These are all the innings I have checked so far. Viv Richards magnum opus is at the top and he has some margin over 2nd place. I am sure we can eventually find 100 innings that are rated above 14.00. Let me know which innings you want me to rate. Cheers.

where would Zaman’s CT final 100 rank on this list? and Kohli’s 183 against Pakistan and 160 against South Africa? the latter was famous for him getting 100 runs without a boundary at the end on a hot day, does that get reflected in any way?

love the list and the work you have put into it:)

Brilliant work. Minor error about the opposition that Stokes batted against in his knock though.

The strike-rates of each innings are compared to the strike-rates of other batsmen in the same match so I don’t think any adjustments are necessary.
So it only shows where they stand in the match. Not in the era. Not the same thing I am afraid. Good innings in a match where opposition had a disastrous end , would show it as a very good innings (for ex. Jayasuriya's 189, where the opposition was actually done by bowlers)

You are worried strike rates within the same game will not show the full story and yet you feel an "era SR" encompassing every different type of pitch across the world would be a more accurate relative measure?

Mr. Glass
do only winning innings qualify? because sachin's desert storm knock or his 98 vs pak in the 2003 wc not making it while michael bracewell's does is very amusing

Desert storm is there . Below Desilva’s knock .

Some recent England ones I remember fondly are

Buttler 129 vs NZ, Edgbaston 2015
Moeen Ali 102 vs West Indies, Bristol 2017
Pietersen 100* vs SA, East London 2005
Morgan 103* vs Australia, Southampton 2010

SRs in the same game tends to be skewed by extremely bad or extremely good performances/ The chance of era adjusted stats is skewed far less even by extreme outliers. if outliers affect the baseline then it creates a issue.
