Cricketweb decides the best fielder ever

G.I.Joe

International Coach
Another contest. I'm stealing your thunder, mr_mister

Not meant to be a strict taxonomical exercise*, so we're not going to moan about slip fielders and outfielders sharing the field here (apologies for the low quality pun).

10 nominations per person. Players nominated thrice get in. 32 players should be a good number, I reckon.

*Exception - Wicketkeepers are not eligible. They're an entirely different breed with arguably greater opportunities to display their skills than other fielders. Fielders who have kept wicket occasionally will be judged on their fielding at other positions. Please refrain from insisting on nominating regular wicketkeepers who may have fielded at other positions on occasion. That's not a loophole; just a silly point (better pun).

Very interesting. And very difficult to know how to rate specialists like David Boon and Mark Taylor who were among the best at short leg and slip respectively - critical positions - but not necessarily highly athletic 'all-round' type fielders.

yeah he's not out of place at all here, an absolute freak in the field.

****e at everything else mind. easily the worst player in this thread so far.

jonty was painfully average with the bat though and look how fondly he's remembered.

I'm actually amazed no-one's nominated Michael Clarke yet. He was an incredible fielder in his younger days.

Ponting
ABdV
Symonds
Clarke
Herschelle Gibbs
James Anderson (reckon he's the best fielder out of any fast bowler I've seen)
Flintoff (brilliant at slip, rocket arm from the outfield)
Guptill

Will have a think about the other 2.

flintoff put down too many at slip. so overrated in the cordon. sound all rounder though (in the field that is).

can't believe i forgot trevor penney. he was immaculate.
