Cricket's 10 Fastest Bowlers - Who are they?

Mitchell Johnson would be in the top ten quickest bowlers in the world fairly comfortably I'd say.

One day I was batting in the net next to where he was bowling (Only off the short run), I had a bit of a look...it was ridiculous the way the balls were zinging past the bat and into the back of the net.

Thankfully I didn't have to face him, although I probably would've refused...considering I am 16 and a bowler.

Just to add a bit more there. It's why most of Warney's deliveries are dot balls, but as soon as he bowls a bad ball, he gets dispatched. I'd imagine that fast bowlers would consistently go for more runs, whilst run scoring patterns of good spinners would be more erratic, like an ECG.

I really dont know hwo any of you can leave fidel edwards out of teh top ten the little kid is crazy he run in with elegance and rithima nd with that hectic action hurls teh ball down at you at a rate of nots and for such a skinny man bowling from such a low trajectory he can really be a handful anyway my top 10 current players in order are.
1.Shoaib Akhtar
2.Brett Lee
3.Fidel Edwards
4. Nantie Hayward
5.Bond
6.Flintoff
7.Sami
8.Harmison
9.Lawson
10.Ntini Jones and Blignaut similar pace anyone else you can think of
obviously shaun tait and irshad from the domestic scene, Dwight Washington i hear he can be pacy havent seen much of him. Tino best has to try so hard to reach 145.

Read this (quoting what I said, especially the bit in italics);

I have my doubts about the speed cameras as a whole in the Test and ODI's series so far. I've seen lightning quick-bouncers get clocked below 120km/h and guys like Hoggard get clocked at 150km/h+ on occasion (obviously anomalies).

My questions about the accuracy of the cameras remains. There have been many and varied methods of measuring ball speed and this current one, as I've read in several technical articles, sacrifices accuracy for speed of results. The infra-red method has drawbacks and in my opinion, the results have to be taken with a grain of salt. Perfect example; I've got Lee on tape being clocked at 168km/h.

Not what he said at all. He said that one ball which hit him was the quickest. I haven't read that Flintoff is the quickest bowler he's faced anywhere.
Yesterday, McGrath was clocked at 90 mph whilst a Lee bouncer was clocket at 78 mph.

Something is definitely not right.

Where abouts on the pitch is the radar? I'm pretty sure all short balls are generally clocked at a slower speed.

Gillespie was express until about 2 years ago. Averaging around 145 and able to hit low 150s. Now hes a mid 130s bowler, which is why he sucks these days.

The ball speed is measured quite close to the bowler's hand, but you are right about short balls. I think it might have somethign to do with the trajectory that a bouncer usually comes out at.

He's bowling the same speed now he was in India, where he was brilliant. I don't think pace has anything to do with it.

No, the fact that he used to be accurate and now struggles to hit the barn let alone the barn door is why he sucks these days.

England have targeted him all summer, and it's been pretty well unrelenting.

A real shame to see such talent go to waste. I mean, he's wasting his time playing cricket when he could be out doing a proper job - like reading palms or selling clothes pegs or tarmaccing drives or taking money on the Dodgems at the fair.

Pretty much on the money, except for the fact that no-one rides dodgems anymore.

In a "tiny things pleasing tiny minds" sorta vein, I was given no little pleasure to see that Ch4 have relented & now correctly describe Fred as "Fast" not "Fast medium". :D

Mcgrath should now be classified as meduim as he bowls the same pace as ponting and martyn, both of which are classified as medium pacers
