Boeta Dippenaar announces retirement

I'll never forgive him for getting out early in 'that' one dayer. If he'd had stayed in for a while, South Africa wouldn't have won. Another pretty shocking retirement though...Only 30...So prett young.

He was an OK ODI batsman. I don't think he was underrated. His average was good, sure, but a strike rate of 67 in the modern era is pretty much unnacceptable IMO. Still, a solid batsman who made the most of the limited talent he was given, and I always like to see that in a player.

Sorry to hear he's going. 30 seems a bit young (especially to a 38 year old!). Good luck to him.

Wow, real surprise early retirement. Always thought he was a decent player, shame to see him retire. All the best to him.

Very sad, one of the very few (3 actually) South Africans this decade who dosent bore the crap out of me.

He also had one of the best names. Boeta Dippenaar. Awesome.
Well Boeta is actually a rather unusual word to be adopted as a name; means "little brother" in Afrikaans.

Either way - that makes two shock retirements of players who should be far too young in a couple of days. Bit of a shame, never get the credit he deserved as a ODI player and hardly had fortune smile greatly upon him in the Test-match game. Did not make the grade, though, that much is indisputable. Maybe it might clear the way a bit in SA cricket, he was always one of those almost-but-not-quite men in so many ways. Hopefully it'll stop some amount of confusion.

Not so much "retiring" as "becoming a(nother) Kolpak" I imagine. He's listed as the Foxes overseas player now, but what are the odds...?

Question is who will be leicestershires' pro this year, heard vanderwath northants overseas player is going to sign a kolpak agreement as well.

Wasn't he the one who in '01/02 tour to Aus kept on getting out to unbelievably fluky catches and then kept dropping catches himself? If that was him, I felt so sorry for him, he seemed so sweet and innocuous. I love his name.

Dippenaar is white of course and with rich enough parents to send him to Kings College 8-)

Half expected him to be off to be the ICL itbt before I read this thread.

BD's test record hardly suggests that he's been badly treated in that form of the game.
As for ODIs, does Amal even get picked for those?
