Geez this getting ridiculous. It definitely affects Dravid significantly too. Running his stats, Dravid played 16 games against them averaging 85.5. Taking away those games, he isn’t even a 50 average batsman.running the numbers it definitely affects the stats. Kumar played 20 Tests v Ban & Zim averaging 94. Taking away those games his career average drops to 52.
edit: tbf Dravid minnow bashed a lot too, but not quite to the same extent as Sanga or as high a percentage of his games
You mean you don't get extra points for being a wanker?I can't believe so many have voted for Sangakara. Wanker factor is a thing. It's when you look good at the expense of your team mates. Dravid was the perfect team man around whom the whole Indian team lifted. Sangakara...meh - a tosser.
Sorry mate didn't mean to give you a hug, don't go getting the wrong idea, thought for a sec it was the info bar,Geez this getting ridiculous. It definitely affects Dravid significantly too. I literally said that in the post you quotedGeez this getting ridiculous. It definitely affects Dravid significantly too. Running his stats, Dravid played 16 games against them averaging 85.5. Taking away those games, he isn’t even a 50 average batsman.

Essentially this. They are close enough recordwise, but always go with the more aggressive bat all things being equal. Both greats, but Sanga had the ability to destroy attacks. Dravid was an accumulator really. I'd pick Sanga - especially sans gloves.
Why would you exclude Pakistan?Yeah Dravid sneaks it for me. Both filled their boots away to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Outside that, Dravid averages six runs more overseas. And the gap was consistently bigger throughout their careers. There are arguments for Sangakkara. But that one is quite compelling for Dravid.
RPW for tests in Pakistan that involved Dravid and SangakkaraWhy would you exclude Pakistan?
Still doesn't justify removing it from his record as they still faced quality bowling even on flat pitches.RPW for tests in Pakistan that involved Dravid and Sangakkara
Dravid 48
Sangakkara 43
Above 40 is horrifically high, indicating extremely flat pitches. As for UAE, Dravid didn't even get to play there which is problematic. The RPW for Sanga's tests there is admittedly lower, but 38 is still very high.
Anyway, both averaged extremely highly in Pakistan so taking them out wouldn't change the picture much, and Dravid didn't get to play in UAE.
There are arguments for both and no wrong answer, but I don't think including Pakistan would particularly shift the balance in Sangakkara's favour. Dravid made overseas hundreds against Shoaib and Asif. Dravid dominated in Pakistan. Sanga just played in UAE unlike Dravid.Still doesn't justify removing it from his record as they still faced quality bowling even on flat pitches.
Sanga played on flat pitches on home. You might as well remove his home record and hand it over to Dravid at the outset.
There isn't any significant statistical edge in their records for either bat. Dravid was underwhelming in Australia and Sanga was underwhelming in England. Both underachieved in each others' countries. Dravid has a few big yield series but played much more overseas too.
