Best Test Team In The World?

Which is the best test side in the world?

Correct, not by a large margin but enough for it to be clear for most
Problem with SA is that they have only two good bowlers in Steyn and Morkel (and I'm still not totally convinced by Morne).
Can't see them dominating world cricket with just two strike bowlers - they will always be vulnerable IMO.

Personally reckon this test going on is important. India very much unlikely to win it. But they should not lose it.

If they do, I fully accept there are question marks as to whether they are clearly number 1.
Well... they won it! :D What a brilliant win today.

India will keep the #1 ranking as long as they continue to not lose series.

When is the last time India lost a test series? To SL in SL in 2008?

Yep, that makes it more than 2 years without a series loss.

Now let's have a look at SA's most recent away series against others from the top 5,i.e Ind,Aus,SL and Eng.

SA in India - 1-1

SA in Aus 2-1

SA in England 2-1

SA in Sri Lanka 0-2

Right that is quite impressive.

Number of series won : 2
Number of series lost : 1

Number of tests won : 5
Number of tests lost : 5

India's most recent series in SA,Aus,Eng and SL.

Ind in Aus 1-2
Ind in Eng 1-0
Ind in SA 1-2
Ind in SL - 1-1

Number of series won : 1
Number of series lost : 2

Number of tests won : 4
Number of tests lost : 5

Now the home records.

SA's most recent home series against Ind,Aus,SL and Eng.

SA vs Ind 2-1
SA vs Aus 1-2
SA vs Eng 1-1
SA vs SL 2-0

Number of series won : 2
Number of series lost : 1

Number of tests won : 6
Number of tests lost : 4

India's most recent home series against SA,Aus,Eng and SL.

Ind vs SL 2-0
Ind vs SA 1-1
Ind vs Aus 2-0
Ind vs Eng 1-0

Number of series won : 3
Number of series lost : 0

Number of tests won : 6
Number of tests lost : 1
Fixed.

India's unbeaten series streak goes up to 7 now,Dhoni maintains his record of never losing a series as captain.

SL won all 3 tosses+Ind had a few injury problems. To still draw 1-1 is a monumental achievement.

I love the way we grind these results out.. we managed to overcome a few injuries as well and the old guys are contributing pretty well. As I said, we'll never be a joy to watch or an awe-inspiring side until we find a bowling attack to match our batting lineup as we'll have to grind wins out. But in the meantime, we are showing some good backbone.

How long it will take India to win a series in SL? After SL beacme out of "minnow hood" India never managed it.

I don't think SL were minnows in '93. Anyway, Tests and series wins abroad are supposed to be hard to come by and I'm prepared to accept that.

You have obviously never heard of the great fast bowler named Mithun.
Let's be honest, if your team lacks the depth to cover when you have some injured players, and are ecstatic at drawing a series against a team which lost it's greatest player ever, you're not a very strong team. Or rather one befitting a side that is "the best in the world".

We didn't lose one player, but four first choice players ffs.

According to your logic, Australia were no way deserving of no.1 status after the summer of 2003-04.

Lose 9 very good to great players plus a number of their backups and then we'll talk

Anyway, good test win for India considering how much pressure they were under and a few injuries

However, until SL get at least one decent test bowler, I expect such results will become the rule rather than the exception for touring sides
