Batting Skills

According to my identification, there are three types of batting skills or abilities.
Strock (the ability to strike the ball)
The ability to middle the ball with bat
The timing of the shot

According to my identifications(of 6 years), no batsman except Brian Lara(at his best) Ricky Ponting(Under some special conditions) possesses all these three abilities.

Some would answer that there are other abilities like footwork or placement etc.

For convenience, Footwork is just to head towards or get behind from the ball. It is for batsman's ease.
Placement is an ability that is derived from these given abilities.

Footwork helps you to time by getting you in a position to get the right weight transfer into the shot.

I don't think placement is derived from those abilities - I think it is a separate skill and the easiest of the ones you have listed above.

I am glad you differentiated middling the ball from timing that is a pet peeve of mine when commentators get the two confused.

Indeed, I've seen balls hit the middle of the bat yet they go straight up into the air, doesn't sound like good timing to me.

The right weight transfer of shot is a part of timing. Timing is the ability that enables a batsman to play shots like square cut, and pull shot. For example, if you get behind from the ball, it would come late on your bat and if you head towards it, you would play it early.

Placement is derived from the ability to strike. Just say when there is a one meter gap between fielders and you want to hit the ball between them, you need to strike it hard.

Either english is your 2nd language or you are not expressing yourself accurately. I don't think square cuts and pull shots are the best examples to use when discussing timing. Although timing comes into them, those shots are largely an exercise in executing the shot properly with good technique. And executing correctly with good technique is not exactly equal to good timing.

You've started a thread like this before Dawood, and I'm still ****ed if I can work out what you actually want to say, or discuss...

I am just trying to show that the footwork is a part of timing. If you talk about execution, it is all about striking.
