Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

Niall

International Coach
99% of IPL fans don't care about Smith. Warner will be missed though, if he's not allowed.
Warner would be as big as loss as Messi would be to Barcelona. Thats not exaggeration. Smith? A loss but he is much easier to replace.

Boof's position, it is being reported, is untenable

Hope they don't appoint arse-licker Langer as his replacement

Langer almost certainly will get the gig but doesn't deserve it. The scorchers basically only have a good record because they use the shield payments to keep their players (see: Tye) and WA haven't exactly been winning many shields lately. Our batting lineup stated collapsing when he took over as batting coach too.

Gillespie would be a much better choice as coach.

And 1 year bans basically means we're going to lose at home to India, which is the ultimate shame.

Really happy that Lehman is gone......the cricket world will not miss that fat ****.

As for the rest of the fallout from this it is really really absurd.

There wouldn't have been much fallout if Smith hadn't tried to be a holier than thou captain all along.

Ball tampering isn't the issue. It's actually irrelevant which law was broken.

The issue is that the team leadership conspired and planned to cheat.

I am certain that they cannot just announce one-year bans this week.

My understanding is that there has to be a Code of Conduct hearing presided over by an independent Commissioner (likely a former judge).

Steve Smith, David Warner, and all other players will be entitled to have legal representation.

Lehmann's case would be different as he's not part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement that the players are subject to.

Not really. A six month ban wouldn't have sent the right signal. Given how idiotic the Aussie cricket boorishness has been even by their standards, it will do more good than harm long term.

To an extent that is true but it comes back to the underlying offence and what they were conspiring to do

They were conspiring to commit a Level 2 offence (Level 4 is the worst)

It's why conspiring to commit a terrorist act and conspiring to steal a loaf of bread are dealt with differently under the law

It always and must come back to the underlying offence - in this case it is only a Level 2 offence
