BARNES OUT
Also;
I've ranted alot about Marnus on here, but I still don't get how a player can go from being a bog standard Shield bat averaging low 30's to a world beater at test level like he's become in the past 2 years. 14 fc tons in 2 years is inaane, and his average has gone from 32 to 46.5. How does a player increase in quality so much so suddenly?
Anyone know when Marnus started copying Smiths leaves and **** intentionally. The more runs he scores the weirder he becomes, making smudge seem normal by comparison.

Something clicked mentally, seen it happen quite often at different levels. The guy he's copying went from a bowling all-rounder who batted 8 in the ODI team to a 70-averaging Test batsman over 2-3 years.

BIG NES doing that against the bl00s, as well as the bl00s collapsing in a ****heap with no moises, sees demand for options in Shady Slim Pty Ltd surge right now, you love to see it

Technical adjustments. You have to be pretty talented when you get selected to play international cricket especially at a younger age. If you watch his setup now to what it was a couple of years ago, you could notice its much more open now which means he doesn't fall over to the off side

Good night for renowned Parramatta Allrounder Sean Sabba Dermo Abbott who took out the Steve Waugh medal at the cricket nsw presentation night

So everyone likely knows by now a few players have been cut here in South Australia, most notably C00ps but also McInerney, Bosisto, Davis and Robins. Travis Head missing out on a central contract is somewhat of a hammer blow as the need to contract him will considerably narrow the options for interstate recruitment. Gibson and Kerber likely to be signed up from grade cricket, from all I have heard Jake Carder is pretty much all but confirmed and that a couple of Melbourne grade guys are also in line to come here, that doesn't exactly inspire massive confidence, other more established targets for the team like Cartwright Conway and MShort seem more likely to stay where they are.

Those still on contract (for now):

WA Agar: disappointing season after a breakout year previously, safe for now but needs to prove 19/20 was no flash in the pan

AT Carey: CA contract, no issues here

J Dickman: needs a good year. Missed a fair chunk of last season, and didn't exactly shine when he was playing, but still highly rated by people around SACA. Wait and see I guess

DMK Grant: one of the the few bright points of the 2020/21 season, even if the figures he returned don't inherently suggest so. Both quicker and more consistent than the Grant some may remember from his U19 days

TM Head: Gun

HJ Hunt: His continued improvement as an opening batsman has been good to see. General pitch conditions helped but Hunt is definitely one worth persisting with

C Kelly: showed a bit in his few 50 over appearances without truly shining, definitely worth persisting with though

T Kelly: unlike his twin brother he is a fairly orthodox batsman and seldom bowls, like his twin though he is the sort of young homegrown cricketer who should be supported

JS Lehmann: Performed generally pretty well on his return to the SACA setup. Still as technically unconvincing as ever, would be expendable in a stronger side, but considering the lack of batting depth Joof is worth keeping around

JM Mennie: back in South Australia now after being unavailable for the season. Can't really comment more as I have no idea how much bowling (if any) he has been able to do of recent times

HJ Nielsen: Definitely staying, will be interested to see how he is used though, especially in FC cricket. He likely wouldn't get a game as a specialist batsman in a strong lineup, but this SACA team simply isn't that

TL Oakley: paaaaaaaaaaaaace. Get him in

LA Pope: Hasn't developed in the way most here hoped, in serious danger of being considered as a limited overs option only. Still young, especially by spinner standards, but has seemingly fallen out of favour with those in charge

KW Richardson: centrally contracted, suspect South Australia will not see much of him once again. I probably rate him higher as a red ball bowler than most but that will not be seen very often likely

LA Scott: the experiment with moving him to 3 in the batting certainly didn't work out, unfortunately. His medium fast bowling is improving, I still believe Scott should be persisted with mainly on batting

CT Valente: It seems like he has been pigeonholed as a limited overs specialist these days, and as much as I like the bloke I can't entirely disagree. Will keep his name in the picture if he keeps on bossing grade cricket, but that hasn't been transferred to the first class game

J Weatherald: safe contract wise, but last season didn't go entirely to plan. While part of that was due to him electing to take a little break from cricket, he would still want to be more consistent with runs

NP Winter: burst on to the domestic scene in a major way, unfortunately he hasn't been able to sustain that level of performance. Another one who needs a strong season

DJ Worrall: absolutely the lead bowler for South Australia in this post Sayers world, fitness still a major concern though. Don't break him, Gloucestershire

CA not giving a central contract to head is the powerbrokers in the east conspiring to cripple domestic SA cricket because they fear it

If I read that correctly, CA have only given Warner a contract but no other test opener. Extraordinary.

Batters: Finch, Labuschagne, Smith, Warner
Bowlers: Cummins, Hazlewood, Lyon, Pattinson, J Richardson, K Richardson, Starc, Zampa
Keepers: Carey, Paine
All Rounders: Agar, Green, Maxwell

Obviously this is a squad tailored more to the world t20 tournament than anything else. You can't even make a proper test side out of that squad.

Don't even think it's tailored for world T20 tbh. One of stoino/marsh are our first choice LOI pace bowling all-rounder and neither have a conteact, green the only one to get one and he's nowhere near the T20 team.

I actually don't mind that at all. The batsmen don't deserve contracts so why give it to them. Make them earn it to make the players and the team better in the long run. Better than giving a contract to a hack like Wade/Head/Harris who have already shown they fail at the top level against any half decent bowling.

I agree with you but that doesn't make it unusual.

I wonder if Bert might take up an offer with SA now he’s a year further down the track from his family tragedy. Haven’t heard anything btw, just musing over it.
