Unless you're expecting Ashwin and Jadeja to do a lot of batting I wouldn't be playing both in Australia. Assuming we get typical pitches and not some BCCI-appeasing slow-low wickets which I can almost see happening

Whatever it takes!!!
You don't understand slow and low, do you? And if they wanna appease BCCI, they could have simply banned Smith and Warner longer. :p

Yeah I'd go with the extra batsman as well. Vihari would have learned from his 3 tests there where he didn't embarrass himself even when made to open. Bowls some troll spin too as a bonus.

you've lost me

Nvm... Your original claim makes as much as sense as me saying BCCI was trying to appease CA with the wicket we served up at Dharamshala, where your lot actually lost after having all the advantage. You must seriously believe your lot could lose if you are lining up excuses this early.

My point is, as long as the surface is not totally skewed towards the fast bowlers, it makes more sense for India to play their 5 best bowlers. And the 5 I named are our best bowlers in most conditions. The 6th batsman is usually never that valuable and I always felt having two bowlers who can do the stock bowling is much more helpful to ensure the seamers can do the attacking role. Also, none of our batters can actually bowl so we end up overworrking our 4 bowlers if we only play with 4. And I think Jadeja is a better bet as a test match #7 than Hardik Pandya. And also a better bowler on anything other than a green track.

I would actually go with Vihari over even Rahane right now. Also, if Mayank or Rohit are not fit, I would open with Vihari than play Shaw again.

I didn't claim anything. I just proposed a possible circumstance. I didn't say it was going to happen. you're already getting worked up about this Aus v Ind stuff and it's not necessary. Relax m8.

Vihari actually averages less with the ball in Australia than Ashwin, who's almost touching 50 after 7 games there. Yikes.

Normally I would never advocate playing 5 bowlers but given that Smith will be out for blood after watching from the sidelines last India tour, I'd probably suggest 8 bowlers to share the workload.

In some ways I hope we can lose a few more early wickets to get Smith in the game a bit more than he was last season.

Smith's probably been obsessively shadow batting and doing all sorts of drills at home.

Missing so much cricket over the last 1-2 years must be killing him.

Our best bet is he breaches the stay home rules by trying to have a net and gets banned for the series.

Cricket Australia catches him picking his nose and bans him for a year

edit: and bans Tim Paine too for not stopping the nose-picking as captain

Hmmm seems like Brisbane will get a lot of cricket, even if the India test doesn't get played here (assuming Afghanistan is playing in Brisbane). Pity we won't be allowed to go to it

Hahahaha.. @Burgey will be pleased that it is most likely now that we have two tests in Adelaide followed by two tests in Sydney. ??
Wow, India could win in Oz again.
And then NZ will crush India in the Test Championship final at Lord's. Thanks Covid 19.
