Australia vs India 2020/21

Nah you still need a bit of variety in conditions and venues, it's not just about the crowd. 5 matches in a row at the same ground? no chance. Dumb.
i know they’re technically different grounds though it’s in name only; pakistan’s been doing essentially this in the UAE albeit not with 5 match series

Well, yeah practically it does make sense but I added that smiley coz after all the whinging from Paine about wanting to play us in Brisbane, they may end up not playing there.
This after India refused to play there. Curious take tstl.

Far from his worst take tbf

but yes

Step 1: India whinge so hard that the tour schedule is changed so they don't have to play at Brisbane
Step 2: Paine makes mild remark about hoping to play India at Brisbane
Indian fans: "Paine was whinging hehe what a loser"

you’d wonder if aus and nz will squeeze an unscheduled trans tasman series in there if we can travel between the two

Qualify "there"? Did CA offer to make it a day test?

Huh.. can you point out a single link that states BCCI refused to play a test in Brisbane? Its not the BCCI's fault CA kept insisting it had to be a D/N test. But hey, its not like you to conveniently forget things that prove you wrong.

You are just getting into semantics now. Paine is justified to want to play home games where he thinks Australia will be strongest, of course it's not a whinge to want that. He's not doing a Faf here, who's basically spent his entire captaincy banging on about how the wickets aren't green enough when they play an Asian team at home (I can't remember the last time a Test match went into day 5 in SA).

Nah.. he was trying to pass it off as sarcasm, I saw the presser video. It was a definite whinge as I don't think he enjoyed the fact that he became the first Aussie captain to lose to India at home. And I was just pointing out the irony of having to play entire series in one venue after all this huff puff late last year.

Apart from them being... different grounds, in different cities...

Hopefully our boys haven't just been sitting idle at home eating biryani

In anycase, I foresee plenty of injuries for the quicks if we rush back into things post lockdown

I'd put money on Rohit and Ashwin coming out of lockdown a lot fatter

Rohit can get by but Ashwin really can't afford to put on too much weight given how much bowling he ends up having to do in tests. I did see his cricket coaching videos a couple of times and he looks pretty much in same shape as he was during the NZ tests.

I'd be surprised if Ashwin even gets selected into the First XI. Jadeja should have that spot nailed down

Definitely. Neither are going to do much with the ball but I'd back Jadeja to be more useful with the bat and perform a better holding role with the ball, even if he doesn't take wickets.

Don't forget the fielding. The only thing I'd consider in Ashwin's favour is that he did bowl excellently and contributed a fair bit to that first win in the last series.

These predictions about Ashwin not being in the first XI overseas seem to be made before every series yet he usually is.

Not Australia A this time though. Less left handers (I think?) and I can't see Ashwin being much threat to Smith and Labu who are likely to be batting a lot of time. However both have looked suspect (relatively speaking) to left-arm spin at certain stages.

Unless it is an absolute green top, I will still pick both Jaddu and Ash with Shami, Bumrah and Ishant being the seamers. If Bhuvi is fit and conditions are more likely to aid swing bowling, maybe Bhuvi for Ashwin but otherwise, I would always go with these 5 bowlers.

EDIT: Of course, assuming they are in the form they showed during the NZ series.
