ATG players who were terrible fielders?

Normally great batsmen(and I suppose bowlers too) have solid fielding records too, lots of matches usually goes hand in hand with lots of catches

but who were some godly bowlers/batters who couldn't catch a cold?

All the terrible fielders I instantly think of were only okay at their chosen skill at best, eg Tufnell and Monty

As an avid Australian cricket supporter it has pretty much been accepted that a classy batsman should pretty much equal that in the field. Almost the entire crop from early 90s to 2010 or so followed that thought process. I had a few earmarked from elsewhere that were the polar opposite. The main offenders for mine are/were Michael Vaughan, Sourav Ganguly and Hashim Amla. IMO you watch those guys field without knowing who they are and you don't pick them to be as talented with the bat as they were.

Heard Imran Khan being described as a pretty ordinary fielder.

Glenn McGrath started off bloody ordinary, and ended up being serviceable.

Murali probably turned into an ordinary fielder in his latter years. I remember him taking some brilliant catches in the outfield in the '90s. I guess his throwing arm would always have been problematic due to the elbow defect.

Imran is a weird one, because for such a balanced allrounder, I've heard and read a few times that his athleticism in the field just wasn't reflective of his athleticism when bowling. I'm really not sure how much truth there is to that.

Inzy? He was good in the slips though.

Obvious one.....Murali
Ooohhh, massively Dwta. Young Murali was excellent. Murali, Chandana, Mahanama, Jayasuriya were all really quick in the field, which is what made SL one of the better fielding units in those days.

Only remember him at the end, so he may have been livelier earlier on but Courtney Walsh hardly broke a sweat in the outfield. Stationed at fine-leg and he use to underarm it back to the keeper.

Harbhajan Singh maybe? Certainly someone who comes to my mind.

Vettori was pretty meh in the field too, although he doesn't quite fit ATG status, & I think Harby is stretching it too unless you're stretching your ATG field pretty wide.

Vettori was more of an issue after his back problems wasn't he?

Yep, so post-2004, so pretty much half his career.

Even prior to that, he always had decent hands, but never good enough to field in the slips or gully,& was a genuine slug in the outfield.

Then he goes & takes that catch in the WC quarter final.
