Bah, Bridge fails again, stumped for not very many. Started the season off well but his concentration is a worry and he's made a few low scores now, will experiment with Gillete opening in the friendly. Oh well, my best two batsmen against their best two bowlers now.

Your match is looking interesting kwek, RRR a bit over six with 20 overs to go.

Why do you open with Bridge anyway? Cuss is virtually guaranteed 100 off 90 or something, so all you want is fast cameos at the other end and you'd score 300+ every game virtually.

I opened with him when I first started because he was the only one other than Cuss who had competent stamina, and he did okay so I've never been bothered to change it. It's only recently that he's been getting frequent single-figure scores, so I've never really thought about replacing him. With a long batting lineup now I'm probably going to replace him with someone with better concentration who's going to score a bit faster, probably my WK Gillete, who's competent with med conc and stam. His career SR is over 100 though he's hardly had a chance to bat much, apart from the last match.

50 up for Cuss in 53 balls. Incidentally he passed 2,000 career runs on 43, in his 23rd innings with an average over 150 and SR over 100, decent effort. 89/1 after 19, not too bad but a bit slow. I have a feeling Berry is going to play one of these 50 off 100 type innings, depriving Cuss of the strike. No complaints otherwise.

EDIT: Timely 16-run over, 165/1 after 30. Should be able to manage another 160 or so hopefully.

Only 40 runs scored in overs 31-40, should've been an easy 300 but we'll be lucky to get there now. 217/2 after 42, Cuss still going on 119* (114) and Gillespie again playing bizarrely slowly for a destructive player, 11* off 24. Berry did a decent job, out for 75 off around 100 balls.

And now Cuss gets out to their worst bowler for 121...boo. 300 looking very remote now.

287/4 after 50, a bit disappointing to only get 122 off the last 20 overs. Still, would've taken 287 at the start as I thought their bowlers were going to do a bit better than that. In the end, Cuss made 121, Berry 75, Gillespie 51 and Gillete 26*.

Their top three is decent, after that they're fairly average, so I think I have a fair chance. Depending very heavily on Gillespie as usual though.

EDIT: Gillespie gets their best batsman (average-wise) for a duck in his first over. Good good.

yup, Hamshaw (35) and Lennon (39) are the batsmen out. Lennon did what he usually does, set himself up before getting out, whilst Hamshaw continues to make starts this season, but he just can't seem to go on with it like last season.

Haha, I thought I had lost that match for sure. They were 224/1, needing 64 off the last 10 overs to win, but I left my two best bowlers to bowl out the last ten. Well, Gillespie got 5-42, Male got 5-34, they lost 9-30 and we won by 33 runs, brilliant. :)

i'm really proud of Daniel Fry, the first player I kept after pulling him from my youth squad, although tbh I didn't realise for quite a while that he was from my youth squad. Anyhow, he started off at mediorce and is now Respectable. He is currently embarking on an awesome run of form. Nothing like Cuss I'm afriad, but certainly worth noting... 32, 97, 33, 21, 122, 154*, 95, and now he's on 85. Perhaps not scoring that quickly, but by god he's gonna get there...

Nice, my YP's suck. Badley just put in another shocker, 0/76 off ten to nearly lose the match for us. Bleh.

oh gosh. well Fry finished up on 125* off 156. Perhaps not the faster knock, but he helped get us to 303/2. My 17yo respectable bat, Jason Duggan, who I pulled a few weeks back, made 75* off 65. whoa-yeah!

Still bemused that we managed to take 9 wickets in 8 overs after failing to take a single wicket in the 39 overs preceding. Quite surprised to win it from there, especially since they had a better reporter's summary than me. Here's the scorecard:

Once again they gave MotM to the wrong person, gave it to Male for his five (mostly lower-order) wickets instead of Gillespie who took five top-order wickets and scored 51. Very happy with that though, apart from Badley's performance or lack thereof. Will be dropped for next match unless he pops to proficient, and even then he probably won't play. Berry and Malik did their job, keeping it relatively tight (despite having worthless and abysmal consistency respectively). The new bowling orders worked perfectly to my advantage with my two best bowlers bowling in the last ten overs.

Gillespie's season tally now a phenomenal 40 wickets @ 9.20, including 25 wickets in 5 league matches (leading the league by a 13-wicket margin), and not too far away from 100 career wickets, currently on 91. Cuss' century takes his season tally to 905 runs @ 181, leading the league with 535 runs and passing 2,000 career runs in that game. Gillete has been impressive behind the stumps with 28 dismissals in 9 matches this season and some runs as well.

That win keeps us on top of the league, but with two other teams one win behind, and third on the div II promotion table. Next two matches are against the #4 and #8 teams, so it shouldn't be too tough, though fitness is still low and having a clear effect on our match ratings. Friendly against Hoggy at his home ground tomorrow, should be a good match. Beat him by 14 runs last time, so we're pretty evenly matched. Will use the opportunity to experiment a bit with my top order and some of the bowlers.

Final point, attendance was well down after my cup loss. 13,441 total after selling out at 17,500 last week, brings in about 100k instead of 125k. Members' confidence is up again after that win though.
