Yeah it's not great, but it is by no means shocking. Being a fifth grade cricketer is a fairly big achievement for your average Joe - I have a feeling he only got selected because of his celebrity status even for that side though because his record was very ordinary.

He plays occasional 5th grade in Newcastle, not Sydney where it would mean more....

Mainly because it is.

And just to help out SS a little more, adrian morley and willie mason are big massive dudes who are both bout 6'5 and 110 kgs. and run the 100 meters in bout 12 secs or so. Plus in league and union...get this...we DONT WEAR HELMETS!...crazy right?
i now take this oppurtunity to point out i play inside centre in union.

Steds: Joey will die if he gets hit for the number of times that hes beaten great britain.

Another question: does anyone know what position joey is gonna be batting? if its anywhere below 7 thers a good chance he wont bat at all so he makes a celebrity appearance to field...oh how exciting...

I remember reading this earlier in the year and I actually thought it was a joke. I can't believe its actually happening. When 20-20 started in England we had gimmicks like pop gropus, jacquzzis, speed-dating and one of the players (Neil Carter of Warwickshire) used one of the matches to try and find a gf (don't know if he had any succsess) but we never had anything like this (a UK equivalent would be say, Wayne Rooney playing for Lancashire - which would horrify Alex Fergeson). I just hope that (a) he can field and (b) if he bats he avoids Gillespie or Tait because I'm sure they won't be able to resist bouncing him. Does he play cricket at any level? It just seems to me Australia is full of stupid ideas just now. PS - I feel sorry for the guy whose place in the team he's taking - thats the unfair part because he's taking a place off someone who DESERVES it more. PPS - but I wouldn't mind Maria Sharapova playing - Tait could whack her on the head and do the whole world a favour!!
You had pop groups, speed dating, and someone used it to find a girlfriend but "You never had anything like this"...

Rugby, isn't that the sport where guys hump other guys in the dirt in order to get the ball or something?
In a nutshell: no. Joey plays Rugby League where each team has alternate sets of six tackles in which they attempt to score a try or concede possession to the opposition if they are unsuccessful. Imagine a heterosexual version of American Football without the constant stoppages or the fancy dress. Union (the other Rugby code) contests possession at tackles with "rucks" forming, which to your uneducated eye might look like an attempt to hump other guys in the dirt.

I remember reading somewhere Joey plays something like 5th Grade cricket, which I understand to be a not overly high standard.

Quote from an article about said event...

"For those whose postcode and IQ don't commence with four or its square root, Johns is a highly qualified rugby league halfback whose most recent competitive cricket experience was for a fifth-grade club in his home town of Newcastle.

He averaged just over 16 with the bat, and managed two wickets at more than 30 when he reportedly shared new-ball duties with a kelpie.

Given that the Blues were thrashed by an innings in their recent four-day match against Victoria and by nine wickets in the subsequent 50-over fixture, those credentials probably justify his inclusion."

Andrew Johns apparently is quite happy to hear that Tait will not be playing in the game due to injury.

To be fair to Joey Johns though, the kelpie had the season of his life. 7 hat-tricks and 4 9-fers in the season meant Joey was often left to pick up the scraps. He was the second highest wicket taker and just lost out on the batting average to 'sundries'.

Marvellous game of backyard cricket going on there...our old kelpie actually managed to catch us out sometimes, no joke, was a gun of a fielder as well, would chase down anything and bring it back to the bowler, slight cases of ball tampering need to be answered though.

Hope he gets smashed, like anyone outside qld or new south wales ever knows the chump.
If i was lehman i would bowl him a bouncer or a beamer and knock his bloody head off:) .
He has like 1 training session with nathan brakken and he thinks thats good enough practice what a wanker and a half  .

Im pretty sure he has had more training sessions. And it is beyound my beleif that Lehmann could bowl a bouncer with his round arm action.

Disappointed they're not showing the 20/20 game Johns is participating in on TV today. Was hoping to witness his batting and the simultaneous loss of all credibility for the format.
