Really think Waugh should be at 6. Then we’ve got 3 blokes to share as the 5th option depending on the pitch and batsmen (Chappell, Root, Waugh) and great batting all the way down there.

Think the spinner spot could generate many variable votes.

Grimmett, Verity, Laker, Tayfield, Ashwin

Not sure there has ever been super clear consensus on these blokes for number 4 spinner of all time and all are good options.

Ashwin might be the best selection for this particular team if people plan to select Garner (for his batting) as first change.

Agree. If Simpson is picked as he should be, that then gives an even better 5th option.

Don't think 3 people sharing the 5th bowling spot is a good idea, especially those 3.
More on that below.

Gibbs should very much be in that group of spinners in contention for 4th. He featured in quite a few All Time teams before Warne and Murali emerged.

Yeah Simpson is a good option, so is Barlow, one of those 3 way players like Simpson, Hammond, Sobers and Kallis.

Another option would be Worrell, the best remaining bat of the all round options and bring the addition of captaincy instead.

My logic for this last round for the team..

Garner - I might rather Davidson, but Davidson struggled immensely when first change behind Lindwall and Miller - this was obviously exclusively during the early part of his career, which no doubt had a big effect on that but still its the evidence we have. On the other hand, Garner is the best first change bowler ever (Cummins will have this in big question at some point)

Walcott - With Faulkner, we definitely need a keeper who can bat, you’d think Flower would be a good shot but yeah.. we all know about his keeping. Walcott was a far more talented bat than Ames, whilst also being a quality keeper. Ames’ batting was truly exposed in Australia, and whose test average flatters him.

I’d prefer Walcott as a batsmen generally, similar to Sangakkara, but then again, since Sangakkara’s selection I’ve pondered on how I should select…

Should I automatically select the player who fits best? Or should I take into consideration positioning and balance for the next XI? (e.g with guys like Sanga and Walcott)

I’m choosing to go with the first

State 12th Man
Healy should get selected
having Boycott, Richards and Ponting at the top order
middle order comprises of Root and Faulkner
Ashwin is at 8 and most probably Davidson would also get selected, there is a batting depth and till no.5 all are ATG or at best ATVG… so more emphasis on better wicket keeper would be fine, top against pure fast, swing and spin.

I feel Faulkner is a proper top 6 batter though. And especially since Ames isn't a bunny, and we have Ashwin and potentially Davidson ar the tail

I wish Holding gets selected.

Allan Donald, Fred Trueman & Michael Holding Holding will be one scary lineup. Very aggressive pacers.
