All-Time World XIs: Discussion Thread

It's really between Barnes, Steyn and Ambrose... Even if Imran misses out in this round, he'll make it as the third pacer pretty easily

Whilst that’s how XIs are listed, I doubt very much any first class or test XI was ever selected in this manner.
Luffy makes educated guesses on what the contentions will be and orders it in a particular way to try and make the team reflect that. People can break ranks and vote for different combinations if they disagree - someone voted for Murali as a third pacer and someone voted for Imran as a middle order batsman for example - so I think it's the most sensible way. There's no perfect way to resolve it but I think this is the closest/fairest.

We often end up with "pick two more players to finish the team" after we've picked a top 5, a keeper and three bowlers for example. Didn't happen this time just because of Sobers.

Grace, Richards, Mitchell, Boycott, Greenidge, Trumper, Smith, Hayden all of them could get voted next round
Yeah depends on what we were judging. Guys with minimal Test careers because of factors out of their control (Richards and Proctor probably being the two really big ones) and guys who's reputation stems a lot from FC cricket (Grace and to a lesser extent Larwood) I always find tough to judge in stuff like this. Hell, I'm never confident on judging pre-WWI players full stop.

I don't think Richards or Grace will win next round but they'll definitely get some votes. Grace is already getting votes.

Hell it could be changed to

2 openers
2 bowlers
keeper

As the opening savvy for a team, and go from there. People might select their spinner first, and they’re assured of the keeper’s batting ability, which makes the remaining potential allrounder spots easier to choose?

Idk tho, I’m happy the way things are.
