rachin putting his hand up to be the new doom runner with kane after ross retires. no idea how quick he is but that looked slow motion.

Good arm though from Nathan Smith and good work by Josh Finne. That's a big wicket Ravindra was middling everything. From memory he must have been run out many times this season.

There were so many close ones there with the run outs. A close one of Bracewell, a missed direct hit, Ravindra's run out and now Gibson is looking like he's going to be run out anytime.

Why do batters take such close ones when the asking rate is like 5s?

That was a top grab by Nathan Smith. I thought the third umpire would take a bit longer to decide.

another example of the mt maunganui property market gobbling up half the talent in nz for the axis of evil team really not helping the standard here. ive bitched before about otago's red ball batting but these guys just aren't that good in any format, meanwhile half of the northern side is making way for black caps with beachfront properties.

hamish rutherford is easily their best batsman and behind him they have a 37 year old and a 36 year old from auckland.
Their best player is stuck in South Africa ☹

The game is getting a lot closer than I thought. Nathan Smith has brought them back, a run out, a serious grab and now a wicket with a slow ball.

it's better to develop your own than chase dads army. wellington eventually figured it out.

size shouldn't be too much of a factor. central and northern have good retention, not just the city sides.

i agree they need to recruit smarter.
From the under 19's, Beckham Wheeler-Greenall and Jacob Cumming might be some players they could bring through to replace Broom and Kitchen along with Llew Johnson who seems promising.

Awwww, Duffman sounded so bummed during that press conference. Otago really is to NZ as NZ has historically been to the world.

No one will take the mantle of the NZ GOAT of running himself or others out. Another classic in the CD Aces game. Calls two when it was never on, doesn't look, never even considers not taking two. Run out comfortably. Vintage Ross.

They're borrowing players from elsewhere but not the big names. They're nicking fringe players from other domestic sides.

If they're serious they should get established players. Most players won't go to Otago as it's colder, facilities aren't the best and club cricket decks are quite bad. Besides it's quite a big region and lots of travel required unlike say Wellington or Auckland.
But fringe players moving to Otago is literally the gold plated way to become a black cap. Got to be a good fringe player, mind.

M Horne, Wiseman, Richardson, Cumming, Broom, Walmsley, Neesham, Craig. Even Wagner.

If Anaru Kitchen moved 2 or 3 years earlier .... he'd have played some blackcaps.

Now a days. It is ND and Auckland players who should look to move , in the 90s it was Auckland and Canterbury.

A good move by N Kelly. Was looking good until this season that he was putting himself in frame for future blackcaps white ball squads.

D Phillip's a good move, but batting him as a T20 closer or omitting him entirely is sucking out his momentum this year.

Otago needs to have good structures/culture though in Volts, otherwise its moot and no one will move. Went off the rails somewhere with Vaughan Johnson 2nd stint though. Coaching that let Duffy get the state he got and Nick Beard .... not sure if that was Johnson or next guy ? Eyes weren't on the road.

Was easier to attract when you had coaches calibre of Wally Lees or Glen Turner.

Watched every ball of that spell from Milne. 2 overs in the power play, mostly back of a length and one or two bumpers. Came back in the 15th, used fair amount of back of the hand slower balls. Bowled the last over and mixed it up quite nicely with an array of slower balls, bumpers and wide hole yorkers. Looking good Adam Milne, showing off his skills. Bowling at 140s - 145s and the slower balls at 118 k. Pretty good change up. The batters were struggling to lay a bat though.
