Is this unprecedented? 9 wins out of 9 from debut can't have happened too often.

I'm trying to think who might have debuted when Aus or WI each won about 16 on the trot. Maybe Brett Lee?

fwiw I think Strauss won 8 out of 8 from debut.

Going back rather further, anyone debuting at the start of (I think) 1920/21 when Aus whitewashed England and then won loads over here soon afterwards might be a contender, especially if they played SA along the way.

Just looking down that list to try to find someone who didn't do well in wins... Colly is the one I can spot, averaged 37, below his career average of 41. Was always the man for the draw (average of 49!)

Adam Gilchrist was part of a winning team for his first 16 (?) Tests from debut. He first tasted of defeat at the end of the Kolkata Test of 2001.

Look at Hobbs and Hutton’s batting averages, still champions even in defeat. Surprised with Stewart’s average in defeat containing no hundreds, was a time circa late 90s where he was England’s best batsman home and particularly away and England were complete ****house then.

I wonder if there were more defeats when he was keeper, because his average was way lower then - 35 vs. 47.

Edit: 34 of the matches lost were as keeper, 20 not as keeper, but %-wise that's pretty much the same.
