14th June - 1st Semi-final - England v Pakistan

Will England get to 250?
I can't see it personally, would take an absolute Stokes special from here. He's renowned for his cavalier and aggressive innings, had to go about things very differently today. He's avoided falling into the traps that Bairstow and Ali have fallen into, choosing to sway or duck the bouncers due to the risk involved and the situation we're in here. Stokes currently batting with his brain, getting us closer to the end of the innings before hopefully exploding.

England will probably make 230ish imo, which is probably just below par against this side on a track like this.

Yeah, we need 250 though to really put pressure on them. 230 best case scenario from here though.

They can just sit on rate if it is under 5s. Our spinners have to bowl superbly here.

I've got this weird confidence that we will defend whatever score we get.

Moeen has got 2 be one of the worst players of the short ball in world cricket.

Pakistan batting is pretty soft but they are more built to chase low totals. That is where there batsmen are most comfortable, they don't like to rotate the strike but can hang around. Also more importantly, England's bowling will not be all that threatening on this pitch. If they had more decent spinners or bowlers that can take advantage of this track then it would have been a different story. On this surface as a batsman you want bang it in bowlers who offer some pace.

Basically you have to hope for a mindless collapse with Pakistan, which is always on the cards.

This might not be a high scoring boundary laden match to this point but it is no less entertaining or short of skill. Pakistan are on the precipice of giving themselves a tremendous chance of making the final, standing between them and a potential chase of under 200 is Ben Stokes, who is battling to resist his all out attacking mindset and is trying to eek out every run possible in setting a target that will put huge pressure on at times a fragile Pakistan batting line-up. Fascinating contest!

Do you remember the 1979 WC match at Headingley?
