The end of the road for SA and my last thread on proteas.

So, which (white) SA players are Afrikaners (raised in Afrikaans) and which ones are Anglo-white (and thus raised in English)? Judging by their names, Morkel, Steyn, De Wet and Van der Merwe are Afrikaners, but Boucher or Kallis? No idea really... I've been wondering about this for a while...

If you defeat your opponent with an innings and about 100 runs, in hindsight, you can conclude that either batsman's contribution was not a match winning innings. Swann rightfully the MotM! If there is one thing England should be bothered about, it is their team balance. This Test did not...

The second match winning Broad spell I've missed this year :( . Well, my planning for the day is messed up. I didn't bother to watch after lunch yesterday, as I expected the Saffies to lose 2 or 3 wickets on what I thought was quite flat pitch. And I was looking forward to a good 5th test day.....

I guess you were right here! Captain's orders? Oh well, he's out... Swann now! Should be good!

I can't see Strauss do so, unless these two start increasing the strike-rate right now.

Yeah, you are right about that. However, what is the risk of slogging for, say, 5 overs? Oh well, maybe if Swann comes in, he will just do that anyway!

Hmm, Why not try to slog your way to a bigger lead, from that moment?

Hey, nice way to bring up your 50, Prior! Slogging and getting away with it!

Are there any statistics, predictions or analyis on how this pitch will be today and tomorrow?

It indeed seems weird to drop him now. But if he would fail in the 2nd innings (if there is one) and/or in the 3rd match, should he still be selected for the 4th?

He's looking good. When he came in yesterday, he looked somewhat nervous, but once he got a go vs Ntini, he broke free, I guess. Form then on, he scored runs at a more than healthy strike-rate. Once he got that 6 of Harris, I felt he came really good. Having said this, I think he has a few...

& Are we getting picky on Cook for scoring 118 runs? Get real! That was a very good innings. The ball that got him did move from the seam and was imho a very dificult one to play.

Cook's test average is now better than Collingwood's!

Well, we can yell at the Review System all we want, but this is imho what it is for: A dodgy decision is rightly overturned!

I guess we will never ever stop complaining about Pietersen throwing his wicket away. He might very well be the most talented batsman in the world, only his 'flamboyancy'in the way of actually being the best test batsman. Otoh, we should not forget that the same characteristic that makes him...

Well done Cook! Delivering wen it matters! Good test cricket this. Dropping Pietersen might prove to be decisive. Dropping Pietersen is never a good idea, anyway............., and he's gone!

I don´t think being 67 for 2 at lunch is ever a solid position...

Well I don't think it's that unlikely for Ntini to get his act together once more. Anyway, I am bit surprised not more arguement is given to axe Morkel for De Wet, if Steyn proves fit enough.

    Harris vs. Hauritz vs. Swann

Is he? His figures are marginally better. I think Harbhajan Singh is a bit overrated these days.

I guess adding an extra bowler is the best way to go, if you have Swann, Broad, (Sidebottom) & Anderson. They are all better batsmen than Cook & Bell at the moment.
