Nah, just a hype. Probably caused by him being a local hero in some overrated local T20 series. In a few months, we've forgotten about him.

It's something I've always liked about the SA line-up. Some names are outright Dutch (Stiaan Van Zyl) . Which helps me picking my favourite players. Nothing ever beat the former Sri Lankan opener Michael Van Dort though.

He doesn't exactly look like he might have an Indian great-great-grandfather though. My, somewhat educated, guess would be that the name is Spanish. Must say Dane Vilas doesn't appear Spanish either.

I agree. IMHO, the idea this is a 200 run pitch is ludicrous.

Does it? I'm still not convinced. Some poor batting imho.

I was just gonna post something like "Sir J. has a good eye for risklessly slogging balls that pitch outside leg, so it only appears he will get out LBW soon...." Anyway, still the 2nd highest score on the card. Can I remind you all that top scorer Vijay actually got off the mark with an edge...

Hmmm, I can see where you're coming from. Even if you're right, 220 never ever should be a par 1st innings score.

Both captains seemed to think it was a very good pitch for batting. IMHO 300/6 is more like a first day par then.

You mean from here, or on beforehand? I disagree with both by the way :) .

Quite a thing. Having two specialist spinners, Amla brings on his part-timer first and again. The scorecard proves him quite right!

It's the only session in this test that has really put things firmly in one direction. A bit of a shame for this otherwise very balanced test.

Does that Samit Patel over tell us it's easy to score runs or easy to get a wicket?

Succesful chases are only relevant as a ratio compared to unsuccesful (as in no draws) ones. A statistic that's somehow never used.

Good point. Thanks for correcting my horrible way to express that a draw is still on the cards.

I can see Pakistan adding another 100 runs AND I can see such a lead (300) not being enough. In other words, this pitch isn't exactly becoming a minefield. Very good test imho!

Once more this match refuses to go in a certain direction.

Care to elaborate? On a side note: The completely unofficial and absolutely nowhere written down, yet fully accepted law of "batsman gets the benefit of the doubt" disappears when a batsman doesn't offer a shot. Well, I was stold so by an offical umpire once. Not sure this rule is commonly...

With England still having a fair chance of a big first innings lead, imho. Just 2 decent partnerships, right? Not very likely, but not improbable either.

His way of saying 'if it spins, it also seams"?
