I'd be amazed if Potts didn't see some significant action this Summer. The best seamer in the CC last year and has since done superbly for the Lions in India.

Do you think Anderson is holding back the next generation of England specialist fast bowlers?
The likes of Potts , Tongue, Atkinson will struggle to get games in their development the longer Anderson is there ..

I wouldn't choose to word it like that. Ultimately, it's down the the powers that be to make the right call. And so long as he's better than the alternatives, then it's up to the younger guys to up their games anyway.

Anderson has said he wants to retire on a nice note and on his terms, so maybe after 700..
One can understand him not retiring after the Ashes where he averaged 80 odd , I think he wants to put that right.

He's holding up whoever's next in line. At some stage you have to start thinking about what you can give back to the game in terms of rearing the next generation, regardless of how good you might still be or perceive yourself to be. This is no different from what Tendulkar did and self-centered if not quite selfish.

Yeah Jimmy is on his last legs now. Give him a farewell test in the summer, but let's look at alternatives now. I honestly don't think he's the best option these days
The likes of Potts, Sam Cook, Fisher, Tongue and Atkinson absolutely need some game time in the next 12 months
They're the next generation and are all in their mid 20s so it's the perfect time to blood them

Yeah, and for the first time this week their performance was a million miles off the words they were speaking. Clearly we're not at panic stations and 'Bazball is dead' yet, but I don't care what sort of confident person or group you think you are, doubts creep in when you speak 'we'll chase 600' and you actually make 122.
I think the 4th Test is by far the biggest test of their mettle so far.

Selfishly hope Durham get full use of Potts in our first go back in Division one.
Windies series is during the Blast but the Sri Lanka series is during the Championship(Notts H, Somerset A, Lancs H)
I mean, they still haven't lost a series in 2 years. Let's see where we're at in a couple of weeks

I really felt strongly that Potts & Dawson should have been in this current side. Potts because he’s young, fresh, very skilled, accurate, & can bowl lots of overs. Dawson because he’s taken a lot of wickets at County level, is experienced at first class & limited overs, can bowl tightly with control, & is a very capable batsman to have at 8 in the order. Any number of batsmen could replace Bairstow, obviously Lawrence for the Ranchi game. Incidentally does anyone have knowledge of the pitches there, what are we likely to encounter?

Bairstow is just way too 'feast or famine' for me, and in these conditions, bluntly speaking, he's just not good enough.
Actually think Livingstone could have been a decent bolter for this tour. Plays spin well and his bowling has visibly improved in recent years. It's a gamble, but I think if he can succeed anywhere it's the subcontinent

I wonder if Atkinson is remotely close to consideration. Playing Wood in back-to-back tests is a gamble and Anderson might also need to be rotated out. Difficult to expect a fairly raw seamer to debut in this situation. Potts might have been a more risk-averse selection.
Dawson should have been out here. I know he's chosen to play in SA but if they'd said to him he would be the second spinner (and now the first), I just can't see how he'd have turned that down.
