4th Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) - 23rd to 27th of July

I remember Dravid having an elite series against Australia in Australia

Has Root had one? Probably not. He's mostly used to watching his team getting spanked 5-0 and being Cummins' bunny for most of the series.
Yeah because Australia made a B team on flat roads, he averages less than Root against actual frontline attacks.

Dravid averages something like 37 against them with 4 hundreds in 100+ innings, yet doesn't stop your kind from sucking his dick like a blonde hooker because he's Indian

Lesser players have got hundreds in Australia
That also kinda proves it's an anomaly and doesn't necessarily make him a lesser player in light of his achievements elsewhere. Sure, it'll be nice to round out his record with a few hundreds, but he's still managed quite a few 50s there.

The real blemish on his career is averaging 24 in Bangladesh :puke:

I don’t think anyone is placing him in the same tier as Smith. He’s in the same tier as ATGs like Dravid.
Speaking of Smith in general Joe Root needs to be careful now as he's entered his 130's now and we all know that's Smith's version of a Daddy Hundred where he packs it in and get out in dumbass fashion.

Loads more runs out there for Joe.

Almost 40 hundreds and none against your biggest rival at their home is a major blot on his test career.

Smith on the other hand was greatness in Ashes 2019. Hostile crowd, concussed, yet was the standout player of the entire series.

Root by his standards has been pretty underwhelming in comparison.
Just accept it mate, he's going past Tendulkar. And rightly so too. No one should be judged on their efforts against a bunch of cheats.

He will surely get there. Just that he won't be remembered as the greatest test batsman for doing so.
The greatest is a subjective judgement and not necessarily based on the number of runs.
Very much like the debate about who was better Lara or Sachin.Objectively Sachin but I preferred watching Lara.

Hope i don't curse this but who was the last player to get a 5fer and a ton.......im feeling Stokes has got this.
Here's the list.

40 such occasions, Corbin Bosch the most recent last month, Gus Atkinson the last for England last year. Beefy the leading player with five efforts, Ashwin has four and no one else more than two.

I feel England are still just knocking it around too much. I don’t buy into the whole Bazball ethos but now would be the time to do it. 5 match Test series are like a heavyweight boxing contest. The best teams sense when their opponents are on wobbly legs and go in for the kill.

If not for sandpapergate, Root wouldn't even be the best batsman of his generation imo

Never really had a series defining Ashes and no 100s to show in Australia obviously (got smoked down under for his most of his career)
He was England's MOTS in 2015, 2 tons and 2 50s. But while Smith, and Rogers, scored a few more runs, how, where and when Root got his was more impressive.

By close of day 1 in the 4th Test, in bowler friendly conditions, he had more than doubled Australia's 1st innings score and remained not out.

In the 1st Test, he came in with England at **** all for three and scored 130-odd.

No century at Edgbaston, the other game England won, but he was 90ish for once out in a fairly low scoring game.

He did bugger all on the flat London tracks, one of which was a dead rubber, but given the series ended 3-2, he was pretty much the difference. I would consider that series defining.

When is Ben Stokes getting knighted? We have two Sirs in the line in our cricket team. Just needs to cap off his career by smashing the Aussies in December
