4th Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) - 23rd to 27th of July

Serious question:

In the last 5 to 10 years how many injuries has Joe Root had that's sidelined him from cricket?

Trying to think at the last 'bad one' or so.

With just circa 2800 test runs to go and with England playing 10-14 tests per year he doesn't even need to average 45 runs per dig to get there.

Just stay healthy.
He will surely get there. Just that he won't be remembered as the greatest test batsman for doing so.

Honestly can't remember the last time Stokes actually hit a six.

Much more content these days to grind out a 30-60 run score with a few bludgeoning boundaries interspersed between those dot balls.

Which is perhaps also a reason why he didn't have a ton in Australia during that period.

Cheating *****!!
Excuses

Lesser players have got hundreds in Australia

Almost 40 hundreds and none against your biggest rival at their home is a major blot on his test career.

Smith on the other hand was greatness in Ashes 2019. Hostile crowd, concussed, yet was the standout player of the entire series.

Root by his standards has been pretty underwhelming in comparison.

What's Dravid's average against South Africa and Australia combined

Nasser Hussain said on air that there were was a reports of Bumrah tripping on the stairs during drinks break in the previous session. And that's why he stayed off the field."

And I thought Williamson was cursed.

I don’t think anyone is placing him in the same tier as Smith. He’s in the same tier as ATGs like Dravid.

I remember Dravid having an elite series against Australia in Australia

Has Root had one? Probably not. He's mostly used to watching his team getting spanked 5-0 and being Cummins' bunny for most of the series.

He's only missed 2 tests since his debut.

One was the 13/14 Ashes early in his career and the second was for the birth of his child against the West Indies in 2020 when Stokes captained his first game
