Umm, Subz does not rate Marshall as the 3rd greatest cricketer ever. Subz doesn't think that Sobers has an argument over Bradman. But might be true for rest of the players.
How people rate cricketers is very subjective and greatly varies from person to person. Mixing batsmen, bowlers, wicket-keepers and all rounders is a cluster****.
We both rate Sobers as the best all rounder and 2nd overall, both think Marshall is the best and greatest bowler and Viv behind only Sachin.
With regards to thinking Sobers doesn't have an argument vs Bradman, that's fine too. Miller played with it or against both and believed Sobers was the better cricketer. Many who never saw Bradman, think Sobers was as good of a batsman they ever saw, if not the best, and a match winner to boot, a test standard front line pacer, and the greatest slip and close catcher. He's clearly one of the only 2 or 3 (if including Grace) players in the ultimate pantheon of the sport.
How that player isn't in contention to be in such a discussion, is wild to me, but to each their own.
With regards to Marshall, why is it unfathomable that the greatest pacer of all time, who was the best and most important player on one of the two greatest teams ever, not a contender for 3rd all time? The best batter, the best bowler and the best all round cricketer.
Outside of CW the only other contenders for the no. 3 spot are Warne, Tendulkar, Richards and fading to memory, but still worth a mention, Hobbs. In terms of skill and impact, what does any of them have over Marshall.
In a sport dominated by, where wins are dictated by, and we're always discussing how important bowlers are, why isn't Marshall as worthy as any of them, if not more of the no. 3 spot?
Viv has the bigger personality and aura and is almost universally rated higher, but was he either better or more impactful to that team or to the sport? Tendulkar was a picture of technique and consistency, played forever. Was he as impactful, did he have that special genius, struck fear in opponents the same way?
Anyways, none of them are off the rails and are more than defendable.
