I agree but for bashir , he does not play any games outside of test match level

he is learning and has won a game for England before

I just think the lad can only improve with the more experience he gets

has there been another spinner at his age only play tests matches ?
Can't the ECB work with his county or perhaps even move him to a different county where he gets to bowl more? His problems are almost exclusively related to bowling stamina at this stage.

England will have a full strength attack next test. Atkinson in for Woakes and Leach for Bashir?

He went on loan to Glamorgan where he hasn’t bowled much, the ECB unlike other boards cannot force FC counties to bowl players, he played on the Lions tour to Australia (where he didn’t do well), I think tours like that to different places (England is about as hostile to spin as anywhere in the world) are the way forward, but equally it might just be that he doesn’t have it

They might actually miss Woakes if that is the case. But I feel they may also bring in Atkinson for Carse who has bowled a lot of overs I think, this series.

i mean he can and likely will but is his ceiling high enough? evidences suggests absolutely not. international cricket is not a creche and england putting their eggs into the basket of a bloke who is about third choice at his county team is really weird.
I agree and it’s to be seen how far they go with the lad

him not playing anything outside tests is unique to me in all the time I’ve watched

He has moved but they didn’t play him either

it’s a unique situation but England have chose to do this

@Spark - Think you got your answer about the side's spirit there. That was one hell of a fight. Are people actually criticizing Jadeja here? He is not a T20 hitter, he simply does not have the range of shots to pull off a Stokes. The best he could hope for was to pull off a Laxman in 2009. And he bloody almost did but for a most unfortunate dismissal of Siraj.

I think almost all Indian sides except for about 9 months in 2011-12 and again in 2014 have had tremendous fight in them since Ganguly took over in 2001. So good to see that tradition is still burning bright. Now to actually play some good cricket and not make stupid mistakes that let the opponents back into the game. England played better in the most decisive moments of the game. This was a game they won far more than the first test. The dropped catch of Smith, the lower order runs by England in the first innings, our own collapse of the lower order on day 3 and then again the top order on day 4 were all India's faults but today England's bowling was supreme. Archer, Carse and Stokes is as good an attack as you can get for England. Atkinson probably is good too but England has to hope they all remain fit for the remainder of this series and for the Ashes.

They won a good toss, didn't suck so bad in their bad moments to be played out of the game, and played their best at the most critical points and completely deserve this win. I am far less disappointed by this defeat than I was at Headingley. And I was less disappointed by Headingley than the games in Australia. I think this Indian side is still learning and hopefully just started on their upward curve. Hope to see a good fightback in OT under the watchful eyes of @GIMH.

There was a very high probability he’d just hole out if he tried to take on the fielders in the deep. The ball was soft and dead by the end. Just wasn’t pinging off the bat at all. He’s also not exactly a power hitter which makes it even harder.

I think a few risks against Bashir or Root could have been taken. But like, they made 88 runs with the turgid approach. It wasn’t far away from working.

As well as he played, Bumrah deviated from the script and paid the price.
It’s just what batting with the tail is like though. People are getting on like he’s the first batsman to ever face boundary riders with a 10 and 11 at the other end. With Bumrah and Siraj sticking around for 80 balls or so, even scoring at 3 an over would have won them the game.

What really stood out was that running 2s weren’t a part of the strategy at all. Almost any good match winning innings with the tail involves a lot of knocking it into the gaps and trying to push hard for 2. It’s how you punish that field.
