That was a nice ego boost for Lyon, I suppose. Bloke needed a pick me up after looking irrelevant in his last few tests.
Don't worry, no offence taken. Its just truth, we can't bat.
On the bright side, having limp batting and great bowling at least makes you competitive and able to steal the odd win. It's much better than the inverse. SL didn't come close to threatening Sue in the recent home series despite having a respectable batting lineup. You need just one or 2 generational batting talents to elevate the team. They don't have to be Headley or Flower level. Your approach of taking a punt on a guy like Rutherford could very well work. I'm glad WI still play a not terrible number of tests. It's much better than the 4 Pakistan and SL got this year.

I hate our batting. Like what the actual F? Every team has a promising youngster: Jaiswal, Brook, Rachin, Mendis, etc. But we can't even freaking muster a 35+ averaging batsman. Im out...

Agreed. Its not all doom and gloom, but if we want to beat Australia or India we can't play on those pitches. We need our batsmen to develop some confidence.

My left field batting lineup would be:

Campbell (not for long though)
Rutherford/Lewis (left field)
Anderson (proper red ball batter)
King
Chase (shouldn't be as high but he's captain)
Hope (wk)
Holder (he's better than Greaves)
Alzarri (has been much better this series)
Warrican
Shamar (elephant in the room)
Seales

This generation sucks at batting. No two ways about it.

Look to the next generation. Jewel Andrew is a special talent, for example. Anderson is a proper batsman, IMHO.

Unfortunately that's it for now. Otherwise it is just shuffling the deck between non stop mediocre options. Chase, Hope (red ball version), King, Alick, Hodge, Blackwood, Jangoo, JDS, Carty, Louis, Kraigg, Campbell, Tage. The list goes on. They are all average or worse. For now, it is about marginal gains, choosing the best of that lot and hoping a few fresh faces appear that are capable of more.

Thirty years holding a bilateral test trophy must be close to a record between two established nations, you'd reckon.

At this rate they'll hold it until the end of days, they are just getting started.
Having said that I see a glimmer of hope given all the Aussie bowlers are getting old. But only a very slight glimmer given our batting woes.

So glad Aus have secured the series win. WI are a side to beat on their own grounds. Aus' transition will be bumpy but I think we can manage it if we look after Smith and Cummins and Marnus regains form and his spot. Then I think we'll have time to rebuild the side.
