South Africa team selection

Marques has had a very confusing career, he's always been a tremendous stroke player , I mean his FC SR is 76 which is rapid in anyone's book yet he's never found a way transfer that into white ball cricket. Incredible to think he's never scored a white ball hundred in his career at 29 years of age in either List A or T20 cricket , I think the move to the Dolphins has helped him a lot but geez this is one player whose career should be a lot better than what it has been.
Rilee Rossouw had a similar issue for a while. Both aggressive but when there are ring fielders in limited overs cricket they would hit the ball aerially and be caught whereas in 4-day cricket there are more gaps in front of the wicket. Rilee eventually found his white-ball niche though, Ackerman hasn't which is a little odd considering his style that you've mentioned.

Currently 178* off 138. Unreal going.

It's a farce calling second xi cricket first class. It's not a new phenomenon though. Even some ucb bowl seasons somehow are counted as first class...

Does this really move the needle on young prospects for the future SA XI?
Unfortunately the IPL prevented Brevis from playing for SA A think he would have definitely played , Maphaka would have probably played too .

23 year old opener Jordan Hermann looked really good for his 50 , he has consistently been amongst the top run scorers in domestic cricket , certainly the likes of Markram and De Zorzi would be under pressure in the test side, even Bedingham if he doesn't get his act together soon , Hermann is definitely very close to a call up.

Fast bowler Tristan Luus is very highly rated , he's only played 1 FC Game before today , but with so little FC cricket being played I can see why they have fast tracked him into SA A because his ceiling is very high , If he can rack up a couple of impressive domestic seasons he will be close to a test call up but obviously he needs more experience, wouldn't mind him getting T20 call up though.

Lhuan-Dre Pretorius really didn't have much to do in this game but he's a freak of nature , we definitely need to get him in the white ball side , if he doesn't get distracted by the T20 leagues he should be a 3 format player he is that good.

Hermann , Luus , Pretorius the 3 biggest prospects from this group that played today

Yeah agree on those. I have always rated Ackerman, but at this stage he needs to continue to put on these performance for him to get a sniff. Hopefully he has the will to do so because no one in that Test batting order is undroppable bar Bavuma and Verreynne IMO.

Also great to see Subrayen put on a good all round display. Is Piedt still ahead of him as a offie you think?

Conrad outright saying that this is not a part of the WTC so he wants to test depth/give other guys a go. I am most surprised to see Hamza back. Really thought he was written off! Still think there is an international player there if he gets it together. Really happy for Subrayen as well. Probably a reward for being such a domestic stalwart.

That was the biggest surprise for me too, but I suppose it's a reward for a good season.

It'll be interesting to see the line ups. This could be a series where everybody gets at least one game.

Subrayen also got a bit lucky with Simmonds late season injury as he may have been behind him for the a side, but he took his chance. Still feel he is very borderline for throwing, though not as blatant as when I first saw him as a 19 year old in a 4 game versus warriors in east london.

Keep 5 bowling options?

If Breetzke (3/4 his best) opens it allows 1 of Brevis/Pretorius to play.

Breetzke/ Senokwane
De Zorzi
Breetzke/ Hamza
Bavuma
Bedingham/ Brevis
Verreynne / Pretorius
Mulder
C Bosch
Maharaj
Ngidi
Maphaka / Subrayen / Yusuf

Test tours to India & Pakistan later this year. They desperate for a right-arm off-spinner to balance off Kesh. He is the only one with accomplished domestic performances behind him.

I guess that answers my question about whether he is behind Piedt or not!
