South Africa team selection

I guess that answers my question about whether he is behind Piedt or not!
He has had his chances. 😁 Being left out for the 2nd Test vs Bangladesh was the final nail in the coffin. And let's be honest, coming back from playing in USA it was always a big ask.

I'm just bleak we couldn't have got more out of Harmer. Him & Kesh our only spinners to average under 30 since readmission.

Really disappointed that Hermann didn't get a call up
Yup,the unluckiest. I feel it is premature for Senokwane. But they would always use this series to test him.

I guess Marques showed he could have been in the mix.

Still confusing as to if Sipamla is injured. Supposedly Beyers Swanepoel wife has suffered complications with the birth of their child. No idea if that is the reasoning behind no cricket this winter.

What do we read into no Pato?

The Pren for Sen is understandable.

The other guys getting the rest also makes sense but those first 2 missing out for Zim are the more interesting calls.

Ackerman feels like he is a senior backup. Strange statement, but the guy you call up when you need a hole filled for a couple of tests that needs experience but is not expected to be in the team for the next 5 years.

Hermann is a big disappointment. I just hope he is getting a chance to develop more and they not going to start ignoring him. Another opening bat though? Seem to have plenty of those suddenly.

Hamza is a surprise. I'm assuming they just want to give a 110% opportunity because they don't want to lose out on a good player particularly one of colour.

I still think it’s Muthusamy on those trips to the Subcontinent. He is a Conrad player. With the recent tracks in Pakistan and India I think they both go actually.

Let's not forget , Muthusamy scorecard 68* and took 5 wickets in his last test match , so surely he should start in the subcontinent, I would be tempted to play Subrayen , Muthusamy and Maharaj in Pakistan , the conditions will favor it and these 3 played loads of cricket together for the Dolphins so the chemistry will be there.

Please don’t say these sort of things to a Durban boy. I’m getting all kinds of excited here 😭

Don't quite know the story of Ryan Ten Doeschete but from a SA pov he seemed like the one who got away.
He was decent for Essex & Netherlands but he seemed to give it a real shot at Western Province and was in the set-up a few years before going to England. Was he of the top level? I can understand the what if questions for KP and maybe Trott with their success for England.

This was the closest RtD got to playing for WP (only Dawson a regular senior player for WP at that stage) in a triangular with touring county teams in 2002. Got a few B games as well. Trott was another who made the move. Bailey and Harris had to move to other Provinces.

I suggested a while a go that it was a good time to blood the youngsters against Zim. got slated a bit for it but it seems i called it right, interesting squad, would have liked Coetzee and Herman in though, dont know much about Codi Yusuf, thoughts about him anyone,
I am a little surprised they've made so many changes considering we only have 4 more tests after this until our home summer of 2026/27.

He isn't overly quick but has a quick arm action with a suprise bumper (remember him hitting a WP batsman on the head in the 4-day final for 23/24) and can get swing/nip. He is in the same category as Sipamla, Swanepoel, Baartman, E Bosch as bowlers who haven't been in the SA set-up much but performing decently domestically and pushing to get into those top bowling groups. So not necessarily 'stars'.

Can watch his interview here. Shows some of his wickets for Durham. Just have to excuse the sniff, sounds like he has been enjoying the white stuff as well 😅

Rapport on Klaasen's retirement.

Rapport has reported that while Klaasen's original plan was to play for the Proteas until the 2027 World Cup, he had already spoken to Rob Walter ahead of the Champions Trophy and told him that he wasn't enjoying his cricket and much and that he didn't care as much as he should

Klaasen and Walter talked things through and made plans in order for Klaasen to play until the 2027 World Cup, but with Walter resigning Klaasen couldn't quite get to a middle ground with CSA that would allow him to play in the 4 leagues his wants to play (SA20, IPL, MLC, the Hundred)

His MLC and the Hundred commitments would have meant that Klaasen wouldn't have been available for the ZIM/NZ Tri Series, as well as the Australia white-ball tour, which didn't sit right with CSA

According to Rapport Klaasen says that by just playing the 4 leagues, he will get to spend 6-7 months per year at home with his
family.

His decision to retire was made easier once Walter resigned, but he made the decision before Shukri Conrad was appointed as head coach. He made it clear that he has a good relationship with Shukri

Klaasen says that his decision is final and that he won't be returning to the Proteas

According to Rapport his plan is to play cricket for 4 more years before retiring entirely from cricket.

Would not Luus or Sipamla been a better pick than Yusuf , would love to know what the selectors where thinking,

Sipamla has to be injured because there is no way Cele & Moreki are ahead of him. Same goes for that group I mentioned ie Yusuf, Swanepoel & M Pretorius. With the injuries E Bosch is very much a limited overs option more as time goes on (did well on his debut in Pakistan).

Luus is talented and could have gone but I guess Maphaka is in a similar bracket in that they don't have a lot of experience or senior performances behind them yet so it's more raw potential and he has time. I think we sorted with Jansen/Boast 8 Coetzee/Luus 9 10 spinner 11 Maphaka for the long term future. All so different and 8/9 can hold the bat.

This seems on the cards according to Conrad.

He says that they going to try get a County deal for Sen as they don't want him sitting not playing in Zim because there is a good chance Pren and Kesh play both tests in Bulawayo in prep for India/Pakistan.

Disappointing to give up an international career for mlc & hundred. Atleast he is honest. Makes it easy to move on. He chose money above any chance at proper legacy. Hope for him he doesn't look back with regret.

Indeed. I'm not saying I want them all there for 2027 but at least you get the feeling with Bavuma, Vd Dussen & Miller they have a love for the game that they remember from being young lads & don't take playing for the Proteas for granted.

Not a personal attack on Klaasen as he isn't the only player that will look after himself and his families financial security.

Just goes to show that you can never paint people with the same brush. Out of all of these guys I would have loved Klaasen to hang around because he can absolutely win you a game from his bat, but it’s obvious players in a similar boat like Miller and Rassie want to play for the Proteas. We have always known that from Miller though, yeah he gave up FC cricket but he has always been an in demand T20 batter but never skipped turning up for SA. I have a special admiration for him. Not just because he is from KZN!
