*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Southee said it was a disappointing performance, but he didn’t seem overly disappointed. Just the standard cliches really delivered in a monotone. Maybe his nickname should be ‘Flatline’.

Cummins is having a laugh saying the NZ line-up is stacked with match winners. This was one of the easiest victories of his captaincy tenure, a hard nosed team coming up against a lot of soft cricket.

How good is Cam Green? Fmd all the people calling him a flop look like muppets now. He's clearly a huge talent.

Alsi New Zealand are never beaten, they just play bad sometimes. Australia have the same attitude on the rarer occasion they lose (you see it lots in rugby haha). It's this demand for no less than excellence that keeps sports teams strong.

At a very basic level we will only beat oz if we win toss, Kane bats deep, we hold our catches and get out tactics right. We got 1out of 4 hence the margin. If we were coached by baz and skippered by Kane we might have a chance.

A win was unlikely today but I thought we could at least bat longer than one session, turned out even that was too optimistic.

Can't expect to beat a team like Australia when we played as badly as we did today and Day 2 which undid some of our good work on the other 2 days.

Hopefully we can put in a better and more consistent effort in the next test, if we can do that we might be able to square the series.

Can’t recall anyone questioning Green’s talent unless they have an agenda of some sort

Think when the dust settles it’ll be acknowledged that Green’s innings was one for the ages on a challenging pitch, and Lyon’s was a special performance, can’t recall the last time any spinner took 10-for in NZ. Add to that a few other things like the openers showing how to get through the new ball on day 1 and the usual relentless display from the pace trio and yes, it’s been top class from the Aussies.

That said NZ’s day 2 performance was as match-losing as it can get, so the reactions are mostly justified. Don’t recall if anyone actually suggested NZ would have won but for all of that, if so that’s probably taking it too far.
Only 2 players this century. Vettori in 2000 (vs Aus), then Vettori and Murali in the same match in 06.

Really feel for Mitchell here. He's worked so hard for his runs. The sun's finally coming out. The pitch isn't offering up too much mischief. Would've had a real chance to go big if someone could've hung in there with him.
Mitchell’s class imo. Every bit a world class middle order player

They won far too easily for the Kiwi's to avoid some serious criticism. In the end it was a capitulation without a whimper.
Apart from Henry and Phillips who were good, there wasn't much fight on display.
Thought Hazlewood bowled sneaky well. Oz batting order still not in form and bowlers are carrying them. Thats ok though and form will return.

It's galling watching Tim Southee speak. He's never been a smart guy or a particularly passionate guy, and that's all we can expect after a bad loss. You'd like to hear a bit more from a national skipper.

And again, let's hear from the coach and what he thinks. More soft 'we'll be better in Christchurch' BS and 'we picked the best team but didn't execute' blah blah

The Windies team that beat Australia at the Gabba recently showed that passion and application & some individual brilliance can see a team that aren’t up to much on paper beat a superior team.
Just goes to show that if you push any team in this format, they'll fall like dominoes.

What a wonderful game this is...this ****ing format is idyllic.

Kudos though to Australia. Lyon is world class and that track suited him perfectly with spin and bounce. He didn't do anything incredible but just laid good traps and stuck to them consistently with the tools he has.

Green is a superstar in the making, Cummins is probably the classiest act in world cricket, they have guys who stand up at the right times to cover for people in and out of form.

They also have a lower order who are prepared to work hard for a set batsman and to do the best for the team. Somehow our captain has received a free pass to bat like a ****wit in any situation for the last 16 years, because once a decade he makes a score like Napier 08 or Basin 23. Makes you wonder.

Pretty sure I said this when he was made captain, but having the skipper bat like he's had most of his grey matter removed sets the tone for the rest of the lower order too. If they get out playing a rash stroke, then all the justification needed is there in Southee. I've had issues with this for years and years, but it becomes worse when he's responsible for setting the team culture.

And poor old Jesse Ryder. He must look at someone like the SP playing and wonder how what he did was enough to make him persona non grata.

This Australian team is definitely beatable as the Windies showed at the Gabba.

They aren't the invincible Australian team of the early noughties when they had the likes of Steve Waugh, McGrath and Warne and no real weaknesses.

They didn't even play at their best in this test yet we managed to play even further below our best than they did and handed them a pretty easy win.

You can handle losing like that if they were clearly the better team but we should be a lot better than we were and at least make it lot closer than it was.

The Phillips dismissal is being underrated imo. That's just a really, really clever piece of bowling, playing on the batsman's expectations (and fear) of extra bounce.
Yep, I agree. I said that just below that post - it was wonderful bowling.

NZ sports teams have shown for years that for all the nice guy talk, the worst thing you can do is obstruct the team from winning. If you obstruct a woman from having a full set of teeth or being ***ually safe, that's fine as long as you make it to training.

NZC have traded/hidden behind being likeable as their brand, and they fall back on it when the team is poor.

What do you do when you're the baddies and you're not playing well? The opposition has a world class, good looking captain who uses his position to speak truth to power.

You've ****ed up NZC. You've ****ed up.
