England test tour of Pakistan December 2022

Root definitely a better bet for a period of control than Jacks, also don’t want to be miserable but think life is too short for sensitive teeth has run it’s course.

Pakistan win clear favourite, and would say draw is second now.

Anderson is seriously elite at holding. ER of 2.35 since the start of 2017 and he keeps it tight everywhere even if not as destructive overseas. Would possibly be the best holder in the world if he bowled more.

Here is my take. Bazball is entertaining and fun but surely the goal is to win Test matches. I understand the logic of risking losing in order to win, but even that theory still doesn’t mean you don’t minimise the chance of the opposition winning. You just dangle a carrot and give them a dilema.

Here on a flat deck with a limited bowling attack in these conditions England haven’t just risked losing they effectively made the opposition favourites.

Far from being brave this feels like a cop out now, if it keeps happening and England lose more often than not and if people still say entertaining Cricket, then we have to ask why do we play? Is it to make the game entertaining or to win? Surely it’s both with winning always the priority of the two?

Whether you are in favour of the declaration or not, make no mistake, with the bowling we have, Pak win was the most likely result at the start of the chase. Take the bad with the good. Stokes is one of the most aggressive captains in test cricket history and standing by his word

On the surface though, 650 first innings and losing is bad. Losing at the end of Day 1 was unimaginable.

Yes, it looks like the English management overestimated the strength of Will Jacks or something. They may still go on to win this but this for sure is a dumb declaration.

The declaration would have made sense if they had a Warne or Murali but with no proper spinners and the sons being useless on the flat pitch, declaring totally doesn't make sense.

I wonder whether Leach holding up one end with the three quicks sharing short bursts at the other end might be the way to go.
