Joe Root resigns as captain

Nintendo

Cricketer Of The Year
wonder if Cook fancies a heroic return? he's in the runs as ever.
Ehh, he's only averaged 41 odd in county since his retirement, don't know if he'de do much better then burns or sibley who have produced similar returns in that period if he came back.

Now, I actually rate Rory Burns very highly, but what would be the reasoning for him to become captain?

Whatever it takes!!!
Feel bad for him. He seemed to try his best and batted really well to brilliantly through most of his stint. Just not a leader nor a tactician and trying to be a captain when being neither was always gonna end badly.

Hope he enjoys his game and can bat at his best for a while to come.

Having a captain is very 20th century, can't they just use analytics instead?
they could literally just pick a different member of the playing xi each game, it's not like people make it to the top level without gaining an understanding of the core theories that everyone uses.

this is a very generous assessment of highly physically talented and very competitive 22-25 year old males tbh

and not much less generous towards 25-35 males of the same group.
