***Official New Zealand Domestic Season 2021/22***

Howsie

International Captain
Haha injury has ruined Gibson's career to be fair to Howsie, but yeah he never got close to 150kph. Was well set to become one of those tall, strong, heavy ball 135-140kph bowlers who look faster than they are because NZ domestic batsmen hate those guys.

Good to see him back though. By all club accounts a really good dude so I hope he can salvage something from his career.
tbf I never said he ‘was’ 150 clicks, I was told by one of the coaching staff in that setup he’d be the next 150k bowler in NZ due to his athleticism, and just how raw he was. Obviously he won’t get anyway near that now. He’s done well considering he was told less then two years ago his career was probably over

Odds on this Bay Oval ends today, day 2. I can't even write this post without more wickets falling, ND 17/4 now and they will probably still win.

There's some crap shots in this ND v Canterbury game but as we know, conditions doing a lot will make the batsman take risks and play shots to try steal a few runs before one has their name on it. Around half these early season wickets are just way too green, as in the last two seasons. Just the one outlier of the snore-draw at University Oval.

Is the Dookaburra in use for all games? And is it officially a separate ball or are all top-grade Kookaburras like that now? There were plenty of good criticisms of the old Kookaburra on flat wickets, but sounds like we need it back for the pre-Xmas round.

I believe it's only in play in New Zealand and was designed to stop NZC shopping around for a better provider. Dukes being a competitor who really pushes hard and promises custom designs etc. to get a deal done.

It's almost as if the captains themselves are giving these pre-Christmas pitches quite good reviews in their post-game reports though, when you think about it. Perhaps there are just tons of very short attention spans filtering in who hate a day of first-class cricket where the run-rate was 3 and only four or five wickets fell. Every Greg Hay that retires, a Bayley Wiggins comes in.

Oh lawdy lawd - 325/26 at the Bay Oval of all places. Canty with a decent chance to win a game after a first innings of 82 if the sun that I can see in those latest videos takes some sting out of the surface after lunch.

This Bay Oval pitch doesn't actually look, visually, that green.

More patchy, than indistinguishable from the outfield. Maybe that is the problem here.

Also. Selecting some specialist batsmen might help.

ND only have selected 4.

Not had an effect yet, but in other game CD have selected 4 also, but with a non-keeping keeper at 7.

That's right, Kookaburra wanted to come up with one closer to Dukes. Harder leather, thicker seam. I don't think they meant it to seam/swing as late as like 70th over but there you have it. It is correct this is only in play in NZ. NZC embraced this and guinea pig for experiment. Spinners seem to like it too but they barely come into play.

The Welly bowling attack getting more and more of a prankish look about it. Cleaver and Shmolly-wolly making mincemeat of them on a greentop (though to be fair, the surface must be pretty true if this denuded Wellington batting lineup was able to make 200 on day 1).

Becoming a bit worried Conway's partner will soon say to him "let's head up to the Bay of Plenty now, into the sun, away from these sulkers and whiny little losers", and with that, Wellington probably won't win another men's title of any kind for quite a few years.

The dookaburra is a piece of junk. NZC should never have listened to whiny english media sooking about touring nz.

You can make a (wrong) case for the duke in home tests, but never for pre xmas fc cricket.

Although it would be great to have the great man playing for Firebirds we did win the first game vs Otago. Agree the team looks quite out of depth without Devon, Tom and Rachin but there are some really good talent in there. Just need time.

Sears on track for a five-fer, could be something of a breakthrough having not started the season with many wickets.

No Neesham as well, and Bennett retired from first class. Definitely not high expectations for them this year given all that, their team line-ups have been horrible. Sort of dreading the Super Smash.
