In the early days Marshall was quite lazy as a batsman, not dissimilar to Archer. Obviously a bit of talent but no real application.
To put it mildly, he didn't care enough. He generally came out with the team not in the worst position, had a little cameo and prepared for a bowl. He really had the ability to be a more than decent batsman and had all rounder potential.

Overall though. Akram - Lindwall - Marshall - Warne

Procter > Botham > Kapil > Imran

Bowling
Imran >= Procter > Kapil >Botham

Fielding
Procter / Kapil / Botham >> Imran
Proctor's bowling is way too overrated. His odd action would have got batsmen difficult to pick the release. But we also know, the novelty wears off at the highest level, unlike in FC. No way he is good as Imran or Hadlee. May be as Kapil and Botham, has a case.

Makes sense.

Test: Kapil 29.54, Botham 28.40, Imran 22.81, Hadlee 22.29, Procter 15.02*
FC: Botham 27.22, Kapil 27.09, Imran 22.32, Procter 19.53, Hadlee 18.11

I can see how Procter is a much more comparable bowler to Kapil and Botham rather than Imran and Hadlee.

If FC is a measure of all rounders, then Kumar Dharmasena is a top class all rounder too.

What do you expect? Brian Statham's and Bill Bowes' are better for example. Crowe averaged like 57 with bat in FC.
All wickets were uncovered the Bowes played and a lot were when Statham did (pitch covering only came in gradually in England). Hadlee turned out numbers that belonged in an earlier era.

If FC stats was all that the Procter comparison was based on which it is not, considering the amount of success he had in his shortened test career as well as the ROW match and WSC. And lets not even compare Sri Lankan domestic competition at any point in time with the South African and English comps throughout the 70’s and 80’s.

Procter proved himself over and over against world class competition and dominated. Honestly this take of yours that he is more comparable to Botham and Kapil as a bowler is more embarrassing than any of your Warne takes.

I can do the same with Ajantha Mendis. In his short test career (before the novelty wwas worn off), he too returned with ridiculous stats similar to Proctor. We know where Mendis ended up with. Being a fast bowler having brute force, Proctor may not slide down to that low, but comparing him to Hadlee and Imran (who were world class at tests) as a bowler is bit of a joke.

No amount of narrative nonsense like county cricket and WSC where only Hercules among men played is going to make up for a lack of formidable (and substantial) international record.

Akram > Lindwall > Marshall > Warne is clearly the right order.

Bringing Procter into the discussion is like comparing apples to oranges. His FC record as a batsman is way superior to the quartet discussed here, so he clearly has a higher ceiling. However, an almost non existent international career means any comparison is left to speculation.

On a side note, I am baffled why Davidson is not discussed here. Way too under-rated as a bowler, and possibly a better batsman than Akram.

Probably because you don't venture out of your own corner that much. We Aussie ****s talk about him all the time. Davidson is an ATG.

Exactly. He is not in the same class with the ball.

Davidson didn't come close to fulfilling the potential his FC record indicated, though he still managed to play some important knocks and averaged more than all mentioned here.
