this one is for home tests, with ajaz and A.N. Other getting a run as specialist asia spinners.

could have gone conservative here and retained nicholls and southee but im gonna say nicholls, who always looks ugly when he's making low scores, will have a run of cheap outs and be dropped and southee will follow the trend of young kiwi debutants and call it a day early but only after a summer of his favourite hobby - routing subcontinental batsmen and some englishmen before hitting some sixes.

climate change will ensure it's either too droughty or too moist for specialist spinners so rachin gets the duties and mccullum takes over as coach and goes full macho with the two 150kph bowlers, jamieson and old man boult. ish sodhi will die in a tragic knife fight because baz has a soft spot for him and sodhi being selected doesn't suit the narrative im pulling out my arse here so we need ish removed from the plot.

post yours, narratives encouraged.

Not sure if warner will still be kicking around at 37, he's extremely fit and missed a year with sandpaper gate, so I think he will be, but hey'll be in his last 6 months. Carey will replace paine and be ****e, getting replaced by paine's rightful successor, inglis. Little but left of centre but think haze will break down sometime in the next 3 years, and really wanted some lower order hax, and Sutherland is gun anyway.

Almost had Broad in there, do think there is a decent chance. Hoping Buttler is still around and more importantly that we are not still talking about if he can 'crack' red ball cricket or not.

I would be pretty surprised if Burns is still around. I know Hameed almost certainly won't happen but it would just be a great story. Lawrence is probably more realistic with Crawley opening.

Spinner is just a guess.

There's more than one, you know...

Think we are pretty unlikely to see Tom again in tests.

Could have added an Overton or two to really confuse things.

Hoping the vacant slot will be taken by a young quick who still hasn't played FC. I'm assuming Warner and Smith will have retired, but that's to be seen. Ideally Renshaw would go back to opening where he belongs, but Maddinson is the other guy who could slot in opening or further down the order.

Smith's only 31 and he's one of the most run hungry batsmen around, he'll play till 37/38 I reckon.

Pretty much the same as now. Maybe no Ashwin because he’s 34 already and is unfit. Next oldest are a bunch of 32yos.

Warner I think is gone by 2023. Who opens with Pucovski could go anywhere, I hope for Renshaw but I can't see him ever moving back up the order. Maddinson could be a good Plan B I guess but he rarely opens at FC level. So I'm taking a punt on Street, if only because I like his style and seems to know how to stay out there.

Middle order picks itself, with the likes of Renshaw and Patterson somewhat unlucky. Head I guess is the most vulnerable.

I think Carey is the golden boy so gets a significant crack at it after Paine, but I still remain unconvinced. Tricky to know the long-term option there as none of the wicket-keepers seem to be doing much at Shield level, though Inglis has improved recently.

Bowling attack - I think one of Hazlewood/Starc will go by 2023. Which one I'm less certain, but I'm guessing Starc as he's a year older and a bit more injury prone. I hope Richardson is over his injury problems by then, otherwise our longer-term bowling stocks look kind of worrying - I'm not sure Sutherland has the pace, whereas Bartlett is still very untested.

50/50 as to whether Lyon is gone by then, 36 is old but it's not quite ancient so I think he has one more summer left in him by that point. Swepson should be getting some games in places like the subcontinent at that point though.

Rachin and Phillips to bowl spin. Duffy is a dark horse for future selection.
