Jamie is the genuinely quick, and erratic one. Cove more an Angus Fraser type really, get's good bounce and movement off the seam. 44 wickets at about 23 this year, whilst playing on a pitch not really geared for pace. Decent stats, in a season he's finally stayed fit, unlike his brother.

Yeah, that's not bad playing his home games at Taunton. Add the away games at Lord's and The Oval, and most of his matches have been in relatively unhelpful conditions. And all in D1, of course.

Buttler certainly shouldn't go he's only reserve keeper at Lancashire to an opening batsman. For the rest good luck to the selectors. Maybe 30 names for 6 or 7 places. The other I wouldn't take is Crane as he's very much second spinner at Hampshire. He may be promising but a long way off being ready.

I’m sure the squad chosen by the voters on the BBC Sport website won’t be far removed from the actual squad. Picking an XI as a way of selecting a squad is rather silly but leaving that to one side, 2% of the 150,000 voters didn’t have Root in their XI.

Can we pick a good third slip. Somehow Stokes doesn't want to field there. Otherwise it won't matter what bowlers we choose if our slips are dropping catches. We have had Jennings, Ali, Westley at third slip just this summer.

Collingwood, 1024 runs at 51.20 this season, is exactly what England need, a warrior who digs deep and scores ugly runs. There are too many of these new England batsmen - and I'm including Rocky and Keats here also - who get out playing nothing 'waft' shots outside their off-stump.

And Cook's been my favourite batsman for years.

Root can **** off though. I'm not a fan of his underhanded tactics like head-butted opposition opening batsmen's fists.

I kinda forgot Wood when I was picking my squad. Assuming he's fit (which is a big if given he needed an injection to play this current game with Durham) I'd probably take him instead of Ball or Overton.

Gleeson from Northants is someone who if he was 21 or something I'd be raving about. Quickest regular bowler in county cricket imo. Has 36 wickets @ 18 in champ cricket this year (albeit div 2). Good action and runup - not your normal laboured English approach to the wicket. Genuine pace. Is 29 and came into the game late but shouldn't age discriminate. Take him with the lions. Bayliss will see him in the nets and put him straight in the test team.

Garton has quick deliveries in him. He doesn't have the fitness or body yet to bowl it sustained over a spell. His action gets ragged and loses pace. Might bowl 90mph in his first over but by 5 overs in he's at 81 and looking likely to injury himself soon whilst spraying the ball around.

Does swing the dukes ball though and with time might be a gun.
