Mission accomplished.Despite my general grumpiness at this thread it has laid down a decent marker for the Ashes battles to come.........Im starting to get pumped for the series.
Did you just make that upI'm looking forward to TJB's level of angst when Lyon wins the Compton-Miller Medal.
not reallyThey should go back and award them retrospectively, like they've done with country and player ratings over the years. Would be interesting.
Mitchell Johnson, infamous for having won the Cooper-Miller medal in 2014The most dominant winner of this medal is Johnson. FMD that was a killer series for him. How long until another player causes such devastation in a series.
Nah, that title still goes to Steyn in 2008-9 for me. He won SA a Test they frankly had absolutely no right to win.Aside from the best series from a visiting bowler in a generation.
Willing to cut him some slack for last time given he was injured and the 2nd innings of most Test matches are exactly what you don't want as a bowler.
He may have had a bit of an emotional breakdown after the dual blows of being bullied by Michael Clarke verbally in Brisbane, and being bullied into the stands for 28 in an over by George Bailey in PerthNah, that title still goes to Steyn in 2008-9 for me. He won SA a Test they frankly had absolutely no right to win.
He wasn't injured for the whole series last time, was he?
In fairness Bell wasn't far behind as he scored his runs in vital situations in 2013 and turned a couple of close situations right into England's favour. The most dominant winner of this medal is Johnson. FMD that was a killer series for him. How long until another player causes such devastation in a series.
For Bell to have been comparable, he'd have had to have scored the 700+ runs that Cook scored in the previous series, but at a strike rate of 150. Anyways..... Anderson yeah. Great* player! In fairness Bell wasn't far behind as he scored his runs in vital situations in 2013 and turned a couple of close situations right into England's favour.
Yeah, that was the first one that came to mind for me too.Nah, that title still goes to Steyn in 2008-9 for me. He won SA a Test they frankly had absolutely no right to win.

Reflects our dominance in modern Ashes series
Yeah this was the point I was making at the outset of the thread. The more interesting discussion would be "will the Aussie selectors have let Anderson play on in case the quartet were all fit and available circa end of last of year?" Aussie selectors seem to be notorious for nudging aging stars into retirement.
And one of the things I wanted discussion on when I started the thread.Yeah this was the point I was making at the outset of the thread.
