By similar I mean flat. First test wicket was flat, definitely not the turners like Indian wickets but it was flat, not the fast and bouncy pitches like those of ODIs. The second test wicket wasn't as bouncy as a typical SA pitch plus it had more spin friendly.

First wicket flattened put as it progressed but it was a fabulous test pitch imo. If you watched it, there was plenty of zip for the sealers on the first couple of days and while it became easier as it progressed, no way was it a road. Lots of deliveries had variable bounce and don't up viciously off a length. We just bowled ****. No way should SA have been allowed to get that close, no matter how well they batted

Now aren't you doing the same thing asDhoni did by not giving the opposition as much credit as they deserve? :p

what india learnt in jhb is that Sa are a damn good batting team and they should forget about spinners than perform in india. They should have batsman get comfortable and have Rahane field everywhere.

Anyway argueing that the wanderers pitch was "sub continent like" or not is the same arguement as "if they selected Raj Singh to bowl spin, India would have won the first test easily".

Great series and great finish.

So impressed and happy to see Kohli score runs. I have been saying that he is a player on the class of Ponting and Tendulkar and once he plays as much cricket, his records would be similar too and every time people have come and told me he is yet to perform at test level, that he is an ODI specialist. Well I hope this puts that to rest. To score a century on the first day against the best bowling attack with minimal preparation, even Tendulkar would have struggled to do that as from memory, Tendulkar usually played his customary majestic century on overseas tours in the second test match after failing in the first.

Its amazing just how well Pujara and Kohli have batted on this series. I had said to a couple of Indian fans that India would not miss Tendulkar much because of Kohli and I meant it as a compliment to Indian cricket only to be accused of the ultimate blasphemy.
However this is a tremendous achievement for Indian cricket administrators and those in charge that despite losing players like Dravid and Tendulkar, you have Pujara and Kohli.
Another reason I love to see Kohli perform like this is that it makes Junaid Khan owning him in the past and when he will own him again in the future all the more sweet :p

There are still a lot of flat track bullies though in the team, Dhawan, Dhoni and the biggest of all Rohit Sharma. I have absolutely no idea why Indian fans rate him so much. First they said "oh he can't handle ODI cricket but he will perform at Test level" and then he preyed on flat pitches against a third class test team and everyone celebrated. Well the honeymoon period is over now. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be the Mohammad Sami or Imran Farhat or Afridi of Pakistan cricket. Till today I hear the words "promising, supremely talented, potential" about these guys. You wanna talk about talent, potential, promise? Virat Kohli is your answer. Not Rohit Sharma.

India's bowling simply does not have the ability to take 20 test wickets outside of the subcontinent and that is the primary reason for their failures on overseas tours rather than Dhoni as a captain but I suspect most of the bitter former players and dumb fans would blame Dhoni and then go back to praising him once after a 4-0 whitewash at home.

South Africa have proved once again that they truly are a superior side with the way they have come back from behind in both the games. Steyn what can I say about this guy. I have seen him do this on a couple of occasions now. When he has an off day (by his standards), he comes back the next day or the next match and produces a spell that pretty much destroys the opposition. He did that against England in the first test in 2012, he did that against Clarke after getting owned in the first two test matches in Australia and he has produced that here again. Great to see De Villiers perform so consistently at the test level.

I do give credit if they play well. But like latest serious in which Kohli, Pujara and Rahane played really well, in fact Pujara scored more runs then any Indian in SA but I would rate some of the innings/performances higher than that of Pujara's or Kohli's because these pitches were not the typical SA pitches or maybe I should say THESE PITCHES WERE FLATTER AND HAD LESS BOUNCE AND PACE THAN TYPICAL SOUTH AFRICAN PITCHES.

Some of the recent examples: Tendulkar in 10/11 series and Laxman in 2nd test.

Yeah to say that to Steyn and South Africa is stupid because they've the best record in India of all visiting teams there I believe....since their readmission anyway.
