I hated the bloke. Good riddance to the arrogant ****...

...is what I'd say if Burgey was the one retiring.

Rahul you have had an orgasmic career. A beautiful cricketer who I always wanted to see perform I. tests. Blokes Love Rahul, he's wife material and that is a pretty big compliment.

You know it makes sense.

My fav Indian cricketer. Supreme talent, professional, a cool head and yet underrated or, er, under-noticed. It seems funny because often the Indian media are only too willing to push one of their talents in the spotlight yet he almost always seemed like he was in the shadows. Only coming out when his batting was needed.
He doesn't make you insecure about Ponting's status, that's why.

Sort of stuff a bloke could only say after 15 schooners.

Since his debut he has been one of the best test batsman in world cricket. I have him in tier 1 along with Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting, Kallis and Sangakkara. Of those he was the best at playing the moving ball, and probably was India's best batsman of the 2000s.

He should be remembered as a player who had a superb defensive technique and extremely good powers of concentration and mental strength, but also as a player with all the shots in the book, and one who could stylishly take apart bowling attacks when he occasionally wanted to. He was clinical at putting away the bad ball, and I think his strokeplay and elegance is and was sometimes forgotten in his overall reputation.

An all-time great player, a great team man, an adaptable player and someone India could count on time and time again, responsible for their greatest achievements.

Whatever it takes!!!
Copying my facebook status message here:

Just coming off various news sites, forums, bulletin boards, blogs.. Everywhere people are saying how they want to be like Rahul Dravid, or how they want their sons to grow up into the sort of a man Dravid is... Forget the batting, this is what defines Rahul Dravid. Forget cricketers, how many Indians will be considered this way by people across the world? Its Englishmen, Aussies, Kiwis, South Africans who are saying these words about him, not just Indians.. Rahul Dravid - You are the Kohinoor of Indian Cricket. And hopefully, we will get to keep at least this Kohinoor.. :)

Easily my fav Indian player, easily my fav SC player, and he's only galvanising that sentiment by going out on his own terms, even though he was better placed to stay in the team longer than some others.

gg Rahul
Laxman was the only other person who was more likely to go out before Dravid. And perhaps Gambhir.

None of India's batsmen do ;).

Actually, ironically, the only one who seemed kinda 'Australian'.

We should probably retire the #3 position. Our batting lineup could go 1, 2, 5, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

Could be a good option actually Hoe. Since none of India's bowlers are actually that good with the bat (bar Ashwin who I believe has a Test century or something similar?) - they can justify picking 4 of them since the best of those is only batting 9.

Also, Dhoni can claim to be batting 8 which more suits his abilities in Tests.

Only problem then is that Tendulkar will be coming in at the fall of the first wicket, something he's not got any experience of.
