TMSofa suggesting there a bit of Terry Alderman in Philander, does that sound about right?
From someone who's just gone from Alderman to Philander, I'd say no. Quite different actions with the Aussie being a lot more sideon. Didn't see Alderman live but am addicted to the 1981 and 1989 Ashes video.
The slight nip off the pitch that they get is kinda similar. Dean Headley in the way he bowled to lefties is another one that comes to mind.

Haha, doesn't surprise me. Was one bloke who's seen a lot of cricket but tends be wrong a fair bit. Thought it sounded dubious.
Tbf he gets close to the stumps like Clem, but he's taller and a little faster. Action not all that similar IMO.

So seriously, why don't we play this straight and with this circumspection all the time first up?

Because we have two blokes from NSW opening up who aren't very good at playing within themselves and getting through difficult periods by defending.

Need to put themselves in a position to launch at the total, especially on a track that's playing around a bit. Give themselves a chance to go hard, because it's probably the easiest way to score in some ways.
