Boon over Border, fo'sho

In facial hair terms, Hadlee not fit to hold Merv's mustache comb.

The shortlist for cricinfo is likely something like this:

guaranteed picks-bradman,sobers.

The other all rounder then would be imran khan for sure. The openers will probably be gavaskar and one of hutton-hobbs.Tendu,Viv and Murali are also very likely to make it.The fast bowlers are more of a problem though.Hard to see them go past mcgrath and barnes but marshall, akram, waqar and ambrose all in with a shout i reckon.

4.tendu
5.viv
6.sobers
7.gilly
8.imran
9.murali
10.barnes
11.mcgrath

I think that is the side they will go with.

There`s no way I can see Marshall NOT making the side, tbh.

I don`t think Gavaskar is a sure thing as an opener either. Hobbs and Hutton for mine.

ESPNcricinfo all-time World XI: Ramachandra Guha picks a nice guys XI | All-time XIs | Cricinfo Magazine | Cricinfo.com

Surely no coincidence that there's a notable relative lack of fast bowlers in the team! And those that are there, while undoubtedly nice guys, could both be questioned after Miller's bumper barrage at Hutton and Ambrose's altercations with a couple of the more obnoxious Aussies. That said, I'm happy enough with them in there. Stan McCabe would have been worth a shout - the stories about his generosity and kindness off the field are legendary. Dolly and Henry Olonga could have also deserved mentions.

Walsh is surely a nicer guy than Ambrose. Once of the nicest fast bowlers I've seen.

Bradman, Sobers, Tendulkar and Warne are guaranteed. For their own reasons, each have a "larger-than-the-game" reputation. They will not take the risk of sidlining any one of them. Imran could be in the above list too.

I wouldn't say Warne is guaranteed at all if the Murali-bloc is strongly felt.

Walsh did not make it to WI XI. Guha chose the team from those who made their respective national sides.

Ah, that probably explains McCabe's absence as well. Murali pretty stiff - seems like the nicest, classiest guy.
