Siddle is going to be a gun bowler for Aus, why are people dissing his selection? He is 23 and there for the experience and other than a tour game won't play. He would gain much more from this tour than Noffke a seasoned veteran. He had very impressive figures last season as well.

Was only on the park for half the season and had injury troubles the year before too. That's one of the reasons why people are questioning the selection, getting through a full season without being injured would be nice. I like him too but there are legitimate questions marks.

I don't think this is hardly the kind of series where Australia should be thinking much about grooming rookies like Siddle, they should have been thinking about sending the strongest team possible to such a tough tour.

Seriously pumped for this series, I think I'm getting more excited each day. Can't wait.

Yeah mate its been a while we have seen a closely contested series, and this one is shaping up to be a cracker of a series, i have been pumped ever since Australia began its transition period in test cricket with the last year's test series against Sri Lanka at home, but this has to be their toughest assignment yet, so i can't just wait for this series to start.

Noffke is easily a better bowler than Siddle at this point in time, and hasn't been injured for at least half of the past 2 seasons. We should be aiming to win this tour, not have younger players there just "to gain experience".

Oh, and Noffke isn't Victorian.

If we play on a dustbowl how would you feel about having an attack of:
Lee
Clark
Watson
McGain
Krejza
Clarke?

I've seen a fair bit of Bollinger love recently, do people actually think the selectors will pick him over Johnson for the First Test or is it more in hope?

Asking a lot of two debutants, a part-time spinner, a man who has been regularly injured, a man whose state of mind we don't really know about, and a man who wobbles when he walks.
;)

I agree tbh. But if the pitch was a crazy turner who would you pick?

The more I think about it the more I want Watson at 6 ahead of Katich.

An an Englishman it is very interesting to read that Aussie squad. Just reminds me how astonishing it was that for 5 years or so leading up to the 06/07 Ashes, the team was so consistent in selection and filled with proven world class performers from top to bottom. Now the squad has one guy I've never even heard of (Krezja) and three whom I've only heard about bits and pieces of here on CW (Bollinger, Siddle and McGain). When you factor in comparatively new players such as Jaques, Haddin and Johnson, it seems almost bizarre to an outside observer, like that's not really the Australian test squad and they'll name the proper one in a few days time.

Firstly, if we play on a dustbowl, the difference between our very poor/completely unproven spinners to the Indians will be less (because the wicket will aid otherwise mediocre bowlers) but we'll still get hammered

As for Johnson, I'd be surprised if he didnt play the first test. It generally takes an absolute disaster/missed meeting for Oz selectors to make a change

On a bunsen, there's no way you'd pick Watto ahead of anyone short of a blind number 11 with concrete wrists.

That is the worst squad I could've possibly made up in my mind. Ridiculous. The amount of contradiction that goes on within Australian selection in recent years is baffling.

"Bryce McGain was the standout leg-spinner at interstate level last year and we think he is really well suited to the Indian conditions and bowling plans," Hilditch said. "His story is a great example of how those who perform at interstate level will be rewarded."

Haha, FORGOT ABOUT NOFFKE? Bloke had the most incredible all-round season in recent history and doesn't even make the squad. Any talk off him being too 'samey' is crap aswell. People were saying that when Clark was playing with McGrath. And what happened there?

Won't even go into the Bracken hate (Happy Birthday) and the rest of it.

Only good thing about it was Casson being dropped. Also, go India.

Couple of surprises for me in the Aussie squad. Peter Siddle, who has seemingly come from nowhere to dislodge Noffke, which I am gathering has caused a little upset from you Aussies, after his outstanding season last year. From all reports I have heard of Siddle, he does seem a genuine exciting quick bowling prospect, but his main aim appears to be avoiding his recurring shoulder problem.

I see they have opted for Krejza and McGainn as the spin options. Thought McGain would go, despite his advancing years, think I'm right in saying he was pretty impressive last season and took a few wickets in the game against India 'A'. It does show at the moment though, if your an Aussie spinner and just string a period of consistency together you can project yourself pretty quickly into international contention.

Casson being dropped after a Test was a surprise, despite I'm sure a number of you questioning his place initially. Was his injury an issue ? or have the selectors decided after his one Test, the time is not right for him ?

Presume they will play only the one spinner, so Krejza may have to rely on injury or a woeful start to the tour for McGain. Having said that, is it generally perceived that McGain is a nailed on starter or will the two tour games play a big part ?

I think the people selected in the squad proves that nobody has any idea what the CA selectors are thinking. For all we know Katich was picked as a specialist spinner.

Bring back Boof imo, best spinner in the country.
