The Colts Thread

I'd like to express my displeasure that the two players who have not been offered contracts, as far as I know, found out only when the rest of the CW community did. Surely some form of one-on-one communication would have been better beforehand.

Especially when, AFAIC, it's not just a case of them being "cut". Pitt, despite his consistent form at U/19 level, really has struggled in Dev League, and maybe a change of scenery would do him good, as he's shown much potential. And for Comley, with 4 spinners at the club at the moment, it's similar to McKern's situation - we're prepared to let him go to provide him with more opportunities.

I also wish to continue my career at the Colts.

If you're in form and other players aren't, you'll get your matches, and it'll work the same vice versa - of course, with internationals in our side as well, there will probably be times that almost everyone left will be playing anyway, given we have 16 players with Butler and myself gone for ODIs and Thomas, Wright, Wilson, Fitzy and Butler all gone for tests (well, going by the recent series).

Haha Dan, that was my way of saying I'd like to remain a Colt. Been away a week so all these changes have me a bit frazzled.

For anyone intersted in their off-season stats, feel free to ask about them here. I'm keeping up with all the Colts during their off-season to keep tabs on their progress. For a run-down...

Fitzy topping the runscoring and averages in the longer form, which is some achievement as he's in Aussie. He's scoring 90+ once every three innings! Doing decent but not amazing in OD.

Burke doing incredibly well for himself this off-season, particularly in the longer form - a lot of runs at a healthy average at the top of the order. He's the in-form opener outside of Fitzy and this could fare well for him at the start of the next season. Not doing too shabby in OD, either. Shame he couldn't keep, but I understand he's intentionally working on his batting.

Resha scoring inconsistently but still the next best in the longer form at present. She's the only other batter averaging above 40 at the moment there. Doing average in OD, with just the one 50 to her name in 8 innings. Managed to get a bowl recently and took 3-24 off five overs, though!

Dasa has been doing very well in OD, our second best performer there during the offseason to date and has managed a couple of big, fast scores there. Not faring as well in FC, but still putting in some worthy performances and does have a 158 to his name.

I've been poor in the long games and expect better of myself. Just the one century to my name there at the moment, and an average below 30 means not good enough. OD is a different story - the best average & most runs in T&T at the moment with a whopping 198* off 162 balls means I'm happy. Along with Resha's 3-24, I managed 2-44 off six overs with the ball in a game.

Out spinners as a whole haven't done very well in the offseason with the ball, but have generally put something together with the bat. Weber has a healthy batting average in both forms and although not as good a bowling average as I'd like from him, he's still getting the wickets, with 10 in the short form and 24 in the long.

Butler was average in the long game before he was called up for internationals, but in his five OD games in America he put up an average of over 100 and a strike rate touching 90. He's also broken a few partnerships with the ball, holding six wickets to his name. While his bowling average wasn't great, his economy of 4.21 made up for it, the best of the Colts at this time.

Dan Rai has been having a slightly odd season, as he performs with the bat but not the ball in the short game and performs with the ball but not the bat in the longer form. Our second highest wicket taker at the moment there, his average leaves some to be desired but he has been very tight and so far has been the most difficult to score off. His batting started off well in the long game but has stuttered since. In OD, however, he's made a lot of very solid not-out scores and is out-doing some of our more regular bats this season. Pity about the ball - just three wickets to show so far.

Howler not faring well with batting in T&T - at least, not in 4D games. In OD, he's equalled Dasa in runs scored and his average is very healthy. We may see him switch from FC regular to List-A regular next season if he can manage such things for the Colts.

In the games he played before heading to Pakistan, Wilson was one of the oustanding all-round figures from the Colts. A tidy if not quality average in T&T's 4D games was the "poorest" showing from him, as he took wickets at a healthy rate in both forms, being the best bowler by a long way in OD, as he took wickets fast and relatively economically. His OD batting was also very noteworthy, matching Butler's feat of an average of over 100 and a strike rate around 90. Doing well for CWXI, too.

Jack is easily the pick of the spinners this off season when you think of long games - his average is only bettered by Thomas & Wright, Colts-wise, while Rai & Weber are 7-9 runs per wicket behind. Definitely the specialist spinner of the bunch there, though. Having said that, he's done well in his few OD innings, including a very nice 57*, also taking 3 wickets in that match. He's been fairly economical in the short form, and only Wilson & Weber have managed more wickets.

Wright is proving his experience counts as his 32 wickets for Orlando before being sent to Pakistan showed. He averages just a shade over 20 there, and has managed to take at least 3 wickets in all but one (two wickets that time) of his opposition's innings. Economical to boot. His bowling has been average in OD, and his batting has been what you'd expect of a specialist seamer.

Likewise with regards to the batting comment for Thomas. He's done the business in Aussie, though, with an FC average of 25.78 to show for his efforts there. OD bowling, like Wright, hasn't been anything amazing, but of course a callup meant he never really had a lot of time to improve his figures.

Jaso & Nick have not been playing for any club this off-season.
