I fear this is going to be really messy. It’s hard enough after a long session in bad heat to go and open, but to do it under lights is brutal. And this mob give you nothing.

Jesus. Not a great start.

And really, that's a leg stump half volley. It's swung slightly, but nothing drastic. Really poor.

Raval got castled by Ben Sears in almost the exact same fashion in the Plunket Shield a month back. Just looks totally out of it.

Ricky Ponting's question for the session: Will the NZ openers stand up to the new ball attack?

Silly question.

Love when the crowd gets perked up like this.

Nah, Raval is a decent test opener.
He already looks a better spinner than santner though. Taking a wicket plus going at less than santner who apart from not being to take wickets-is really easy to score off if needed.

If the selectors are smart enough it allows is to play a extra bowler or batsman at 7 /8 instead of santner-Raval can replace his overs.
This is a proper galaxy brain-level take. We get it, you dislike Santner.

The 'going at less' bit is particularly hilarious. Aus had no intention of scoring runs in the period he was bowling ffs.
