Draft idea: Counties by initial

AndrewB

International Vice-Captain
Draft idea based on the fact that the 18 first-class counties have 11 different initials (D, E, G, H, K, L, M, N, S, W, Y)...

Eligible cricketers for this draft are anyone (from any country) who has played at least one first-class match for one of the 18 current first-class counties.
Each cricketer is eligible to represent only the county for which he has played the most first-class matches.

Then each drafter picks 11 players representing 11 different counties with 11 different initial letters. That is, you must pick precisely

1 player representing one of Derbyshire and Durham
1 player representing Essex
1 player representing one of Glamorgan and Gloucestershire
1 player representing Hampshire
1 player representing Kent
1 player representing one of Lancashire and Leicestershire
1 player representing Middlesex
1 player representing one of Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire
1 player representing one of Somerset, Surrey and Sussex
1 player representing one of Warwickshire and Worcestershire
1 player representing Yorkshire

If there's enough interest, I'll start it when 12 people sign up.

I'll play

Suppose Jim Bloggs Jr played 20 matches for Kent and 20 matches for Surrey, who does he rep?

Nice idea. In.

Not sure about this clause though as it creates homework.

Each cricketer is eligible to represent only the county for which he has played the most first-class matches.
Happy whatever though.

Regarding the "eligibility" clause, on the one hand it does add to the work; on the other hand, I didn't really want anomalous selections such as "Jim Laker - Essex; he played a couple of seasons there after leaving Surrey" and this seemed the simplest way to avoid them.

That's 10 signed up - still room for a couple more; in any case I'll launch the draft some time tomorrow.

If you want to check for a specific player, Cricket Archive (The Home of CricketArchive) will tell you.

e.g. if you search for Jim Laker, it takes you to his main page (The Home of CricketArchive), click on "Lists of matches and more detailed statistics", then on "First-class record for each team batting and fielding", where it shows he played for various FC teams, including Surrey (309 matches) and Essex (30 matches).
