Seems strange idea unless they think he may be able to bowl tomorrow and him being on the field means he could from the start.

Oh yeah...
Lyon and Ashwin average over 40 runs per dismissal against Cook. Mamuddullah and Williamson average over 70 vs Cook. The captain has been very consistent and very good against spin.

Unless they know its an impact type injury and it won't rip I can't see why you'd have him on the park. Seems like madness to me if not.
Closest would be Chris Morris. Savage and phelukwayo are promising but nowhere near ready.

Interesting how some of the people England have put to open, with a slight emphasis on wanting a more aggressive approach at the top of the order, have really struggled to get the scoreboard ticking over.

I agree but Cook still scores plenty of runs against him.
I've misinterpreted the figures from cricinfo. It's average in innings where x bowler has dismissed Cook.
I can't find any accurate bowler vs batsmen data on cricinfo. Might be difficult/impossible to find the stats I'm looking for...

Gone lame.
Shoulder injury, went off mid over and now back on the field but going for a scan at close of play.

Steyn was unable to complete an over and left the field due to a shoulder injury. As yet, we don't know when he'll be back in action.

I don't really remember Cook scoring bucketloads of runs against Lyon, but I definitely remember him getting Cook out a fair few times.
I mean, in which series did Cook score all these runs? There have only been three.

Yeah, they don't make it publicly available, which is annoying. If you want to find that stuff out you either need to keep track of ball by ball data or hope someone else who does is kind enough to tell it to you.
