aldo strikes again #icanstillbowl

6 wickets in the match and counting for Small. Wellington surely have to declare soon though to give themselves a chance.

Yeah, it's not the best look for Doug that he's getting out bowled by the 21yo upstart. Aldridge rips apart Canty's test class opening pair.

we very clearly have enough depth that we don't have to tolerate it. Just freaking drop him already.

ND have broken through the crucial Ellis-Astle engine room down the order too. Canterbury have such a good top three and lower order but the middle ruins it.

No Bennett and Henry was the killer blow in this match though.

"That's not fair, bowling semi-competent wrist spin at Shield bats was our tactic first!" - Canterbury

Meanwhile at Eden Park, Michael Bates' 105 ball vigil comes to an end.

Just wondering, if the kiwis are going to pick a spinner (for a test match) who should it be if Sodhi isn't up to it? Or just go with another seamer as you have suggested?
If sodhi is our best spin option then it's pretty clear we shouldn't be playing one

took a five-for...

Dunno, I know it's the wrong decision but he could end up trolling some Indian batsmen. The spinner's slot shouldn't be the vital cog.

It's one of those ones where the expectation is so low that anything could happen. The wrong selection, but it will be fun to watch.

wuht. in international sport every single spot in the team should be considered a vital cog. You're just putting yourself at an 9% disadvantage otherwise.

yes and no.

It's pretty clear that out of the hundreds of NZ players that could be selected, Southee, Boult, Taylor and Williamson are going to matter more than 36%. The 4th bowler's spot, while still worth something, isn't weighted as highly.

yes it makes the team weaker to select Sodhi ahead of Henry and Bennett, but not as much as if Southee were replaced.

And then factor in that we have Anderson and Williamson who'll possibly bowl before Sodhi...I'm pretty sure that Wagner's performance is going to be the critical one.

Perhaps the hope is that Kohli and co will be so overconfident and dismissive of Sodhi that, if he lands a couple of balls eventually, they manage to get themselves out in a thoroughly ridiculous manner trying to stroke their gigantic egos? Pujara and Rahane would probably be immune, but I could see random dismissals of Kohli and Dhawan in particular.

What Sodhi can do is get the odd wrong 'un going and get eyes lighting up prematurely in the lower order I think, before it really wags Plunket-style.

We already have Wagner not quite fulfilling that role thank you very much

Interesting that he's come back and managed to destroy a domestic team - although four of the five came against lower order players. At least you can say that he's gone in and put a performance on the board domestically, something he hadn't done before.

Canterbury

And to think that team had been top of the table.

Edit: Still is, actually
