You'd think that the NZC would've scheduled the Plunket Shield to finish this week, so that at the least our cricketers could've gotten some 4 day match practice heading into the tests. Instead we're once again going into a test series completely cold. Ugh.

Don't squander the gold of your days making a shrine of cricket videos, trying to improve the hopeless failure, giving your life away to the Blockys, the Devciches and the Weerasundaras! Surrender your devout little cricketing heart to the inured agribusinessman.

one day NZ will bring chappell to his knees in a puddle of his own tears and you'll see Phlegm on his belly greedily tasting every delicious tear before watching the hope fade from that old ****s eyes.

Does anyone know what the NZ XI is for the warm up?

Luke Ronchi (c) – Wellington Firebirds BJ Watling - Northern Knights (Ronchi injured)
    Corey Anderson – Northern Knights
    Neil Broom – Otago Volts
    Dean Brownlie – Canterbury Wizards
    Carl Cachopa – Central Stags
    Mark Gillespie – Wellington Firebirds
    Tom Latham – Canterbury Wizards
    James Neesham – Otago Volts
    Hamish Rutherford – Otago Volts
    Jeetan Patel – Wellington Firebirds
    Neil Wagner – Otago Volts

One more player to be added to make a squad of 12.

Batting order will end up looking something like:

    Hamish Rutherford
    Tom Latham
    Carl Cachopa
    Dean Brownlie
    Neil Broom
    BJ Watling
    Corey Anderson
    James Neesham
    Neil Wagner
    Jeetan Patel
    Mark Gillespie

I think they will add a bowler and drop one of Anderson or Neesham.

Not sure what's up with the secret squirrel, jetting in on the morning of the match thing they'd be attempting with that 12th. Perhaps England said 'screw that, we're good to go with 11, proper FC match'.

Yeah it's possible that was on their mind at the time of the announcement. Should still have 12 players down there tonight though, hard to fathom there's an injury in the warm-ups and Bob Carter's out there.

You would imagine England go with their test team for this warmup given there is just one and there are a number of test specialists yet to play a game. Some people have been calling for Bairstow to be included in place of Compton and Root promoted to open. Not really in favour of that and don't think England will do it.

I guess the main spot open for discussion will be the third seamers spot with one of Broad, Onions or Woakes selected. I'd guess England still favour Broad which I'm not opposed to.

Some people have been advocating playing two spinners given Panesar's success but that seems a way of greatly increasing New Zealand's chances of causing an upset. Even if NZ won the first test last time around with Jeets and Vettori playing.

    or not.

It seems according to a journo's tweet during the night that Anderson and Finn are going to be rested.

Presumably a shootout between Onions and Broad then

I'd be tempted with giving Finn & Anderson a break and letting Woakes, Broad and Onions fight it out for the 3rd seamer spot.

EDIT: or what it seems is happening.

Can assure you that if I was, Dernbach would never come near again

Only issue I can think about in this scenario is that they're auditioning for the role as support seamer but 2 of them will be using the brand new ball. I suspect Broad will keep the job assuming he bowls something reasonably presentable so long as he looks good in doing it. If he ends up with say 2-70 and looks sharp then I'd suggest that even if Onions took a 5fer he wouldn't get in.

All Broad has to prove is that he's fully fit. If Onions bowls his way to a spot then he should come in for Finn.
