Was just having a look at some of the highlights from the India series...Siddle was bowling so much quicker, consistently above 140 and even approaching 150 at times. I don't think the speed guns were off either, cause Zaheer was in the low 130's. His bowling looked sooo much more menacing for it as well. Needs to get his act together asap.

So......the bowlers bowling within themselves to get through a long day against a top opponent on a flat deck not a possibility?

Of course he and the others were more menacing, their team were dominating on pitches which were far better for quick bowling. Charging in and bowling the same way against this line-up would be ****ing stupid.

This was behind my question about the speed of the pitch. I guess it may be a tactic to bowl in bursts and then conserve strength.

gonna say something out there - glenn mcgrath isn't good at commentating
Bad day for Aussie seamers past & present, tbf. Even aside from the lack of wickets, Siddle has gone vegetarian, Hilf is clean shaven and McGrath has a slightly gay sounding speaking voice.

& all this in Movember, ffs.

Plus side for Oz is England finished the first day of the first test versus the yarps in a similar position to the tourirsts find themselves now and we know how that ended up.

pfft. Patto was still bowling at a fine pace throughout the entire day, and wow, he looked easily the most likely to actually get a wicket. Were talking about Siddle here as well. Y'know the guy who always runs in hard all day...

And frankly if Siddle can't maintain a pace of more than 130 for more than the first 10 overs or whatever, then he just shouldn't be in the team. We have plenty of fast-medium bowlers in the waiting who could do a better job of bowling 130ks than Siddle. His ability to bowl quickly, consistently throughout a match is the quality than separates him from others.

Damn good day for SA but its far from a dominant position. SA dont have great batting depth and if these two get out early tomorrow it could end up being like India at the MCG.
Amla WAG, hoping for a double <3

Was nothing wrong with Siddle's bowling today. Went past the bat often enough, wasn't pedestrian, all but got Kallis out and was consistent otherwise.

Irrelevant when you look at the fact that duminy and rudolph are meh. Not much quality after ABDV imo
Err, it's not irrelevant, they're going to be walking out with a massive total on the board on a road. They might not be good for runs in the same way as red-hots like Kallis and Amla but they're pretty likely to score some

Imagine this... tomorrow morning amla and/or kallis get out early in the first few overs... i just wouldnt fancy rudolph/duminy against the aussie attack with their tails up in the morning with the new ball and the score at 230-240 odd for 4.
Pitch is flat ill give you that, but currently their score isnt even that big enough to give jp and rudolph license to come out and bat fearlessly.

Duminy was key in helping Proteas win there last series in Australia and Rudolph is good enough to make a century against an attack of Warne, McGrath and Lee.

But I suppose they cant be as good as Indias batsmen the last time they were in Australia

They're 2/255. Let's say both of Amla and Kallis get out in the first over tomorrow and it's 4/255. Short of a fairly remarkable collapse, any mid-table Test side would back themselves for 400+ from that position. Now, you're talking about two blokes, one in the form of his life and the other an all-time-great in what appears to be very good touch. So that scenario is pretty damn unlikely.

It's self-evident that what you're saying is possible. Similarly, it's self-evident that it's very, very unlikely and if it does happen, will most likely be from great bowling, not because the bats are crap.

Theyve done precious little apart from 1-2 epic innings, and no, our ****tiness in australia will only be matched when Bermuda tour Oz in 2040

Beside the point, they both good enough to be in the team. It was just last series Duminy contributed with bat to help the Proteas

Pretty sure that Siddle has only played 1 fc match since being sent home from the WI tour in April with injury - he is completely underdone
